Ramamurthi
named College Coach of the Year
KUTZTOWN, PA. (October 9, 2009) – Kutztown
University men’s and women’s tennis coach Suresh Ramamurthi has been
named College Coach of the Year by the Eastern Pennsylvania District
of the Middle States Section of the United States Tennis
Association.
Ramamurthi will
receive his award on Nov. 22 in a ceremony at Moravian College.
“Being recognized by the local tennis
community means that we as a team have raised tennis awareness in
this region,” Ramamurthi said. “This also shows that KU Athletics is
being watched and recognized. This is a very exciting honor. There
are many top level coaches in some of the best colleges in the area.
It is an honor to be included in this elite group of professionals.”
The men won the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional
and made a trip back to the NCAA Championships in Orlando, Fl. for
the first time since 2006. Ramamurthi was named the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Coach of the Year.
The Golden Bear men’s tennis team also won the PSAC
last season.
Under Ramamurthi’s
guidance, the Golden Bear men have won eight of the last 10 PSAC
Championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009). The
team appeared in 10 consecutive NCAA East Regional qualifiers,
winning five in a row from 2002-06 to advance to the NCAA
Championship round of 16. He has coached 37 All-PSAC selections.
