DART, REBUCK LEAD GOLDEN BEAR MEN ON FRIDAY

INDIANA, Pa. The Kutztown University men’s track and field team is in second place after two days of competition at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships at Indiana (Pa.) University.

KU has 34 points, 10 behind the leader Slippery Rock. Lock Haven (24.50), Shippensburg (22) and Indiana (22) round out the top five.

James Dart (sr. Havertown/Haverford) and Jason Rebuck (so. Southampton/William Tennent) led the Golden Bears Friday placing in the top eight in two events. Dart was third in the discus (154-1) and fifth in the hammer throw (160-5), while Rebuck was fourth in the discus (147-6) and fourth in the hammer throw (170-4).

Chris Boutsikaris (so. Andover, N.J./Newtown) was KU’s top finisher in the hammer throw with a toss of 171-7.

Steve Tyson (sr. Bridgeport/Upper Merion) also placed in the discus with a seventh-place throw of 142-1.

Rounding out the field events was Michael Kramer (fr. Pine Grove/Pine Grove) with a seventh-place finish in the long jump (22-5).

Ian Clark (jr. Troy, N.H./Monadnock Regional) was fifth in the decathlon with 5,982 points.


WILLIAMS HITS NCAA PROVISIONAL MARK, WINS PSAC TITLE IN 10,000

INDIANA, Pa. The Kutztown University women’s track and field team is ties for second place with Lock Haven with 59 points after two days of competition at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships at Indiana (Pa.) University.

Slippery Rock leads the competition with 65 points, and East Stroudsburg (30.5) and West Chester (25) round out the top five.

Stephanie Williams (sr. Harrisburg/Riverside) led the Golden Bears winning the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:41.72. Williams' title run, which was an NCAA provisional mark, was her second straight outdoor title in the 10,000. She beat her 2007 title time by more than a minute.

Kristin Cupido (fr. Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) also ran in the 10,000, finishing seventh with a time of 40:03.44.

Kelly Strickland (so. Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) finished second in the pole vault with a vault of 11-5 3/4, while Rachel Weigle (so. Red Lion/Red Lion) was fifth (10-6) and Alison Wise (so. Denver/Garden Spot) was seventh (10-0).

Ashley Pinter (fr. Bethlehem/Liberty) finished second in the shot put (42-4), while Michelle Hughes (sr. Warminster/William Tennent) was eighth (39-7).

Laura Deller (sr. York/Dallastown) was eighth in the long jump (16-9 1/4).

Katie Colburn (fr. Hanover/South Western) was fifth in the heptathlon with 4,086 points and Rebecca Kerchak (jr. Sinking Spring/Wilson) came in eighth with 3,718 points.


BOUTSIKARIS, DART WIN INDIVIDUAL PSAC TITLES IN THE FIELD

INDIANA, Pa. — First-place finishes by Jim Dart (sr. Havertown/Haverford) and Chris Boutsikaris (so. Andover, N.J./Newtown) helped the Kutztown University men’s track and field team place fourth at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Indiana, Pa.

KU posted 92 points, finishing behind PSAC Champion Slippery Rock (124.5). Lock Haven was second with 108 points and Shippensburg was third with 101.5. East Stroudsburg rounded out the top five with 89 points.

Boutsikaris placed first in the javelin with an NCAA provisional throw of 204-7.

Dart, who also finished as an All-PSAC athlete in the discus, took the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 52-5 1/2 an NCAA provisional mark.

Steve Tyson (sr. Bridgeport/Upper Merion) also placed in the shot put, finishing fifth (50-4 1/2), while Sam Wall (so. Newville/Big Spring) was seventh (49-3 1/2).

Justin Gibbs (sr. Pottstown/Pottstown) finished as an All-PSAC athlete, as well, placing third in the 400-meter hurdles (54.02) ahead of teammate Vonkurt Redley (sr. Philadelphia/Cheltenham), who placed fifth (54.23).

Redley added a top-eight finish in the 110 hurdles, finishing fourth (14.90). Shane Harvey (fr. Potterburg, N.J./North Hunterdon) was eighth (15.14).

Billy Boorse (sr. Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) was fourth in the 800 (1:54.77), while Kendel Dixon (so. Atglen/Octorara) finished seventh in the 400 (48.93).

Michael Kramer (fr. Pine Grove/Pine Grove) was eighth in the 100 dash (11.13).

Dixon, Redley, Gibbs and Steve Hixson (sr. Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh) teamed up to run the 1,600 relay in 3:16.70, good enough for fifth place. The 400 relay team, of  Devin Peterson (fr. Kutztown/Kutztown), Kramer, Dixon and Gibbs, also placed fifth (42.21).


PINTER FINISHES ALL-PSAC IN TWO EVENTS, KU WOMEN FINISH FOURTH

INDIANA, Pa. — Two All-PSAC performances by Ashley Pinter (fr. Bethlehem/Liberty) propelled the Kutztown University women’s track and field team a fourth-place finish at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Indiana, Pa.

KU posted 96 points behind Slippery Rock, which claimed the PSAC team title with 203.5 points. Lock Haven was second with 111 points and Shippensburg was third with 107.5. East Stroudsburg rounded out the top five (71.5).

Pinter won the discus with a throw of 138-5, while placing third in the hammer throw (153-4).

Stephanie Williams (sr. Harrisburg/Riverside) added another All-PSAC mark to her career, placing third in the 5,000-meter run (17:49.15). She also placed fifth in the 3,000 with a time of 10:28.41.

Kristin Cupido (fr. Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) followed Williams in both events, placing fifth in the 5,000 (18:06.26) and eighth in the 3,000 (10:40.41).

Joanna Horstmann (jr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) and Keri Brown (fr. Southampton, N.J./Seneca) both finished fifth in their respective distance events, with Horstmann running the 800 in 2:15.18 and Brown finishing the 1,500 in 4:45.87.

Christina Reimer (fr. Chester Springs/Downingtown East) also had a fifth-place finish for KU with a time of 11:36.1 in the 3,000 steeplechase.

Samirah Barczynski (so. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) took fifth in the 100 dash (12.74) and Heather Spangenberg (so. Clarks Summit/Abington Heights) was eighth in the 400 (1:00.73).

Both teamed up with Jessica Donovan (jr. Newtown/Pennsbury) and Laura Deller (sr. York/Dallastown) to place sixth in the 400 relay (49.57).

Spangenberg also ran in the 1,600 relay with teammates Horstmann, Deller and Katie Colburn (fr. Hanover/South Western), placing fifth (3:56.26).
