KU PLACES 15 ATHLETES, TWO RELAY TEAMS AT BISON OPEN

LEWISBERG, Pa. — The Kutztown University men’s indoor track and field team had 15 athletes and two relay teams finish in the top eight of their respective events in the second day of the Bison Open Saturday.

The Golden Bears best finish came in the 1,600-meter relay, as the A-team, comprised of Billy Boorse (sr. Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley), Steve Hixson (sr. Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh), Vonkurt Redley (sr. Philadelphia/Cheltenham) and Kendel Dixon (so. Atglen/Octorara), finished second with a time of 3:24.05.

Hixson also placed in two other individual events, finishing eighth in both the 200 (23.41) and the 400 (51.53). Dixon finished one place ahead of Hixson in the 400 (51.52).

Boorse added a seventh-place finish in the 800, with a time of 2:00.13.

Michael Kramer (fr. Pine Grove/Pine Grove) took sixth in the 60 (7.18), while four Golden Bears, Shane Harvey (fr. Potterburg, N.J./North Hunterdon), Shaun Crump (so. Boyertown/Boyertown), Isaac Schatz (fr. Elliottsburg/West Perry) and Doug Theye-Ace (jr. E. Stroudsburg/E. Stroudsburg S.), placed in the 500.

Harvey finished third (1:08.87), Crump took fifth (1:09.05), Schatz was sixth (1:10.70) and Theye-Ace was seventh (1:12.30).

Harvey also placed in the 60 hurdles, finishing fourth (8.54), one place ahead of teammate T.J. Longmore (so. Manheim Twp./Manheim Twp.), who finished in 8.63 seconds.

KU placed six athletes in the field events, with James Dart (sr. Havertown/Haverford) and Justin Germani (fr. Birdsboro/Daniel Boone) leading the way. Dart took third in the weight throw (52-8 ¼), while Germani tied for third in the pole vault (14-9).

Tim Ohm (so. Media/Penncrest) also placed in the pole vault, finishing fifth (14-3 ¼).

Devin Peterson (fr. Kutztown/Kutztown) led the Golden Bears in the long jump with a fourth-place finish (21-4), while Kramer finished fifth (20-11 ¾).

Brian Collier (fr. Norristown/Norristown) rounded out the field event winners with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (43-1 ¾).

Ian Clark (jr. Troy, N.H./Monadnock Regional) finished the heptathlon in fifth place with 4,265 points.

The B-team in the 1,600 relay team finished one place behind the A-team with a 3:31.60.

KU will compete again on Feb. 8 at the Susquehanna Invitational and the New Balance Games in New York, N.Y.


HORSTMANN TAKES FIRST IN 800, WILLIAMS SETS SCHOOL RECORD

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Joanna Horstmann (jr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) led the Kutztown University women’s indoor track and field team with its only first-place finish at the Bison Open Saturday.

Horstmann won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.52. Keri Brown (fr. Southampton, N.J./Seneca) placed fourth in the 800 with a 2:23.06.

Stephanie Williams (sr. Harrisburg/Riverside) also made her mark at the Bison Open setting a school record in the 3,000 run (10:18.66).  She finished third in the race.

Doofan Tor-Agbidye (jr. Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) placed in two individual events and a relay Saturday. She finished second in the 400 (58.81) and fourth in the 200 (26.69), while helping the 1,600 relay team, consisting of her and Katie Colburn (fr. Hanover/South Western), Laura Deller (sr. York/Dallastown) and Heather Spangenberg (so. Clarks Summit/Abington Heights), finish second (4:03.61).

Jessica Donovan (jr. Newtown/Pennsbury) took sixth in the 500 (1:23.02), while Becky Webb (so. Laurys Station/Parkland) finished seventh in the 1,000 (3:21.08).

Alex Butler (jr. Montoursville/Montoursville) was the only Golden Bear to place in the top eight in the field events, with a seventh-place finish in the long jump (16-8 ¼).

KU will compete again on Feb. 8 at the Susquehanna Invitational and the New Balance Games in New York, N.Y.
