EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. Ashley Pinter (so. Bethlehem/Liberty) had a first-place finish, while Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) and Cheryl Dingman (jr. Lansdale/North Penn) broke KU school records at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference meet on Sunday at East Stroudsburg.

The KU women's team finished in fifth place with 62 points. Slippery Rock stayed in first place with 146 points, just edging out Shippensburg with 142. Lock Haven with 101 points took third, followed by Indiana (Pa.) at fourth with 84.

Pinter got her first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 42-11. She also claimed fourth-place in the weight throw with a mark of 52-0 1/2.

Horstmann's record breaking performance of 5:03.42 got her a fourth-place finish, which was also gave her an NCAA provisional qualifying time. The record was formerly held by Diane Gallo with a time of 5:03.70. Horstmann also finished in eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:22.02.

Dingman set the new KU record in the 3,000 with a time of 10:12.21, to break Stephanie Williams' mark of 10:18.66 which was set last season. Dingman placed fifth in the event.

The team of Doofan Tor-Agbidye (sr. Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg), Horstmann, Katie Colburn (fr. Hanover/South Western) and Jessica Schlechter (jr. Chalfont/Central Bucks South) placed in sixth in the 1600 relay, with a time of 4:06.15.

Cody Hartzler (sr. Belleville/Indian Valley) led the men with a second-place showing in the high jump. Hartzler had a height of 6-6, just behind Shippensburg's Andrew Batula at 6-9 3/4.

The Golden Bear's men's team finished the PSAC championships in sixth place with 43 points. The Shippensburg men remained in first with 134 points, followed by Lock Haven (129) and East Stroudsburg (120). Rounding out the top five were Slippery Rock with 91 points and Indiana (Pa.) with 80.

Kendel Dixon (jr. Atglen/Octorara) placed fourth in the 400 (49.47) and sixth in the 200 (22.74)

In the 55-hurdles, T.J. Longmore (jr. Lititz/Manheim Twp.) took fourth place, posting a time of 7.80.

Joseph Tavormina (fr. Hellertown/Saucon Valley), Shane Harvey (so. Pattenburg, N.J./North Hunterdon), Dixon and Shaun Crump (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) placed seventh in the 1,600 relay, posting a time of 3:26.11.

Crump had an eighth-place finish in the 800 with a time of 1:59.60.


EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. Kelly Strickland (jr. Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) took first in the pole vault to lead the Kutztown University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference meet Saturday at East Stroudsburg University.

Strickland won the individual title the event with a mark of 10-11 3/4. Her first-place finish has the Golden Bears in third with 34 points, behind first-place Slippery Rock (51) and second-place Shippensburg (35). Lock Haven is fourth with 30 points and Indiana (Pa.) is fifth with 26 points.

On the men’s side, Shippensburg leads the two-day event with 49 points, followed by Lock Have (44), East Stroudsburg (40) and Slippery Rock (34). Indiana (Pa.) is fifth with 28 points and KU is in sixth with 16 points.

Chris Boutsikaris (sr. Newton/Newton) led the men, placing fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 53-7 3/4.

Craig Sherwood (fr. Perkasie/Pennridge) and William Hodges (jr. Levittown/Neshaminy) were back to back in the pole vault, with Sherwood placing sixth and Hodges seventh, both with a mark of 14-7 1/4.

Ryan Reich (fr. Oley/Oley Valley), Ben Loht (jr. Leistown/Indian Valley), Matt Reightler (so. Bethlehem/Northampton) and Shaun Crump (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) led the 3,200-meter relay team to a fourth-place finish (8:03.03).

Loht also ran with Jeffrey Collier (fr. Philadelphia/Lankenau), Jubilant Kunce (fr. Red Lion/Red Lion) and Frank Nick (fr. Kintnersville/Palisades) in the distance medley relay, placing eighth (11:07.77).

On the women’s side, Rachel Weigle (jr. Red Lion/Red Lion) and Melissa Fellenbaum (fr. Landisville/Hempfield) placed behind Strickland in the pole vault, with Weigle taking fifth (10-6) and Fellenbaum placing sixth (10-6).

Katie Colburn (so. Hanover/South Western) and Cristina Reimer (so. Chester Springs/Downingtown East) were sixth in their respective events, with Colburn scoring 2,917 points in the pentathlon and Reimer finishing the 5,000 in 17:59.00.

Christina Costanzo (fr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) was seventh in the long jump (17-3 1/4).

The 3,200 relay, ran by Jessica Schlecter (jr. Chalfont/Central Bucks South), Jill Kostishion (fr. Hilltown/Pennridge), Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) and Keri Brown (so. Southampton, N.J./Seneca), finished fourth in 9:39.28.

In the distance medley relay, Lynn Lisofsky (so. Wilkes-Barre/James M. Coughlin), Kristy Ulrich (fr. Duncannon/Susquenita), Cheryl Dingman (sr. Lansdale/North Penn) and Brown, finished fifth in 12:33.48.

The Golden Bears will continue at the PSAC Championships Sunday.
