SEVEN FIRST-PLACE FINISHES HIGHLIGHT KU WOMEN'S PERFORMANCE
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University women’s indoor track and field team
collected seven first-place finishes at the Golden Bear Invitational
Friday at Keystone Hall.
Ashley Pinter (so. Bethlehem/Liberty)
won first
place in two events in the unscored meet. She won the 20-pound
weight throw (49-10) and the shot put (39-6 3/4).
Christina Costanzo (fr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan)
took the top spot in the long jump (16-0 3/4) and Kelly
Strickland (jr. Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) earned first place
in the pole vault (11-0).
Katie Colburn (so. Hanover/South Western)
won the
pentathlon with 2,805 points, ahead of teammate Jasmine Lockhart
(fr. Wernersville/Conrad Weiser), who placed second with 2,272
points.
Jill Kostishion (fr. Hilltown/Pennridge) finished
first in the 800-meter run in 2:29.98.
Cheryl Dingman (sr. Lansdale/North Penn) won the
1,000 (3:08.95), finishing ahead of teammate Kristy Ulrich (fr.
Duncannon/Susquenita), who was second (3:15.73).
In the 3,000, KU did not take first
place, but Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West),
Cristina Reimer (so. Chester Springs/Downingtown East),
Kristin Cupido (so. Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and
Hailey Dell (sr. Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake) swept the
next four places. Horstmann and Reimer were second and third (10:41.75,
10:46.01, respectively),
while Cupido was fourth (10:54.10) and Dell fifth (11:18.12).
Brooke Mathews (fr. Reedsville/Indian Valley)
was
second in the 55 dash, finishing in 7.65., and second in the 200
dash (27.52).
The Golden Bears will travel to
Ursinus College for the Collegeville Classic on Jan. 23.
HARTZLER WINS HIGH JUMP AS KU COMPETES IN GOLDEN BEAR INVITE
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— Cody Hartzler (sr. Belleville/Indian Valley) picked up the
Kutztown University men’s indoor track and field team’s only
individual first-place finish at the Golden Bear Invitational on
Friday at Keystone Hall.
KU relay team beat out Shippensburg in
the 1,600-meter relay for first-place, with a time of 3:30.92.
In the high jump, Hartzler posted a
jump of 6-6, beating out the second-place jump of 6-0 by East
Stroudsburg’s Ken Cardullo.
In the 3,200 relay, KU finished behind
Muhlenberg (8:21.85) with a time of 9:12.07.
KU’s Jason Rowles (jr. Broomall/Marple
Newtown) finished in second place with a time of 1:09.42 in the
400, finishing just ahead in first was Greg Pammer (1:09.40), of
East Stroudsburg.
T.J. Longmore (jr. Lititz/Manheim Twp.)
took
second in the 55 hurdles (7.85) for the Golden Bears, edged out by
the Warriors’ Rusty Smith (7.63).
KU pole vaulter William Hodges (jr.
Levittown/Neshaminy) finished tied for second with East
Stroudsburg’s Matt Gallup at 14-6. Shippensburg’s Donald Graybill
claimed first at 15-0.
Chris Boutsikaris (sr. Newton/Newton)
led the
Golden Bears in the 35-pound throw finishing second (54-9).
Former KU standout Jim Dart
competed unattached in the shot put, claiming first place and a
Keystone Hall indoor record with a throw of 56-2. The record was
held last by Kutztown’s Josh Himmelberger with a throw of 53-7 in
1998.
The KU men will compete next on Jan.
23 in the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus College.
