KU women finish second at PSAC East Challenge

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Kutztown University women’s outdoor track and field team finished second at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Challenge Saturday at Millersville University.

Melissa Fellenbaum (fr. Landisville/Hempfield), Cristina Reimer (so. Chester Springs/Downingtown East) and Ashley Pinter (so. Bethlehem/Liberty) each picked up first-place finishes for the Golden Bears, who scored 151.5 points to finish behind first-place Shippensburg.

Pinter placed first in the hammer throw with a toss of 159-8, while finishing second in both the shot put (38-4 1/4) and the discus (125-7).

Reimer won the 3,000 steeplechase (11:31.57), while Fellenbaum took the top spot in the pole vault (11-0 1/4).

Rachel Weigle (jr. Red Lion/Red Lion) finished tied for second behind Fellenbaum (10-6 1/4) and Alison Wise (jr. Fivepointville/Garden Spot) tied for sixth (9-6 1/4).

Wise also placed seventh in the javelin (108-7).

Christina Costanzo (fr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) placed fourth in the triple jump (35-3) and seventh in the long jump (16-7 3/4).

In the high jump, Amy Tucker (fr. Ridley/Ridley) and Jennifer Zook (so. Lewistown/Indian Valley) tied for fifth (5-0 1/2).

Cheryl Dingman (sr. Lansdale/North Penn) and Katie Quinn (jr. Glenolden/Interboro) recorded a pair of second-place finishes on the track for KU.

Quinn was the runner-up in the 100 (12.95) and Dingman was second in the 3,000 (10:46.64).

Samirah Barczynski (jr. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) finished sixth (13.04) behind Quinn, and Cupido placed fifth (10:57.04) behind Dingman.

Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) was third in the 800 (2:22.23) and fourth in the 1,500 (4:58.03). In the 800, Jill Kostishion (fr. Hilltown/Pennridge) placed fourth (2:24.67) and Keri Brown (so. Southampton, N.J./Seneca) was fifth (2:26.95).

Brown also finished seventh in the 1,500 (5:11.43).

Kristin Cupido (so. Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) was fifth in the 3,000 (10:57.04) and Stephanie Grimm (fr. Fleetwood/Oley Valley) was third in the 5,000 (19:09.03).

Katie Colburn (so. Hanover/South Western)  finished third in the 400 hurdles (1:07.31) and seventh in the 100 hurdles (16.22). Lynn Lisofsky (so. Wilkes-Barre/James M. Coughlin) was fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:09.09).

Holly Pinkerton (sr. Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl) finished sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase (14:04.70).

In the 400 relay, KU’s team of Barczynski, Quinn, Sarah Messner (so. Maple Glen/Upper Dublin) and Brooke Mathews (fr. Reedsville/Indian Valley) finished third (49.88), and in the 1,600 relay, Lisofsky, Horstmann, Colburn and Jessica Schlecter (jr. Chalfont/Central Bucks South) teamed to finish fourth (4:12.82).

Boutsikaris helps KU men finish third at PSAC East Challenge

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Kutztown University men’s outdoor track and field team finished third at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Challenge Saturday at Millersville University.

Christian Boutsikaris (sr. Newton/Newton) led the Golden Bears, who scored 141.5 points to finish behind first-place Shippensburg and second-place East Stroudsburg.

Boutsikaris nailed a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the hammer throw, besting his qualifying mark from earlier in the season with a toss of 180-2.

Jason Rebuck (jr. Southampton/William Tennent) placed behind him in third (172-7) and Sam Wall (so. Newville/Big Spring) was sixth 151-0.

Rebuck also placed second in the discus (144-10) and eighth in the shot put (41-0 1/2). Wall was fourth in the discus (136-8) and fifth in the shot put (44-4 1/4). Greg Senatore (fr. Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) had KU’s best finish in the shot put, placing fourth (45-1 3/4).

Cody Hartzler (sr. Belleville/Indian Valley) and Matt Cannell (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) each had second-place finishes in the field, with Hartzler being the runner-up in the high jump (6-4 3/4) and Cannell placing second in the long jump (22-7 1/4).

Robert Clews (so. Ashland/North Schuylkill) , who was fourth in the triple jump (42-7), finished behind Cannell in the long jump, eighth with a jump of 20-5 3/4.

Craig Sherwood (fr. Perkasie/Pennridge), Percell Berry (fr. Norristown/Methacton), William Hodges (jr. Levittown/Neshaminy) all tied for third in the pole vault (14-1 1/4).

Jack Iosue (fr. Manheim/Manheim Central) was sixth in the javelin (176-7) to round out KU’s competitors in the field.

On the track, Kendel Dixon (jr. Atglen/Octorara) placed second in the 400 (50.06) and seventh in the 200 (22.58). Jeffrey Collier (fr. Philadelphia/Lankenau) was eighth in the 400 ( 52.11).

Frank Nick (fr. Kintnersville/Palisades) and Kevin Rodgers (jr. Clifton Heights/Upper Darby) each had second-place finishes for KU. Nick was second in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:00.37) and Rodgers was second in the 5,000 (16:19.09).

Shaun Crump (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) was third in the 800 (2:01.26) and T.J. Longmore (jr. Lititz/Manheim Twp.) was third in the 110 hurdles (15.02).

Matt Reightler (so. Bethlehem/Northampton) finished behind Crump in fourth (2:01.37), while Longmore was followed by Shane Harvey (so. Pattenburg, N.J./North Hunterdon) in fifth (15.61) and Matt Bailey (fr. Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) in eighth (16.42).

Ryan Reich (fr. Oley/Oley Valley) was fourth in the 1,500 (4:09.30) and Jason Rowles (jr. Broomall/Marple Newtown) was seventh in the 400 hurdles (1:00.69).

In the 400 relay, Cannell, Dixon, Berry, Sam McKellar (sr. Allentown/Dieruff) finished fifth (43.44).

Cannell, Collier,
Joe Tavormina (so. Hellertown/Saucon Valley), Rowles also finished fifth in the 1,600 relay ( 3:24.51). The team of Berry, Dixon, Reightler, Crump were seventh in the 1,600 relay (3:29.60).
