Rowles wins title in 400 hurdles; KU men place sixth, women seventh

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. Jason Rowles (jr. Broomall/Marple Newtown) led the Kutztown University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field team at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships Saturday at Millersville University.

Rowles ran the 400-meter hurdles in 54.33 seconds to claim the top spot and his first PSAC individual title.

His top placing helped the KU men’s team finish in sixth place out of 13 teams with 67.5 points. Shippensburg won the team title with 143.5 points. East Stroudsburg was second with 137 and Lock Haven (111), Indiana (79) and Slippery Rock (75) rounded out the top five.

On the women’s side, KU finished seventh with 58.5 points. Slippery Rock won the team title with 179 points, edging out Shippensburg, which scored 162.5 points. Lock Haven was third with 116 points and Indiana (Pa.) was fourth with 94.5 points. East Stroudsburg (79.5) was fifth.

Ashley Pinter (so. Bethlehem/Liberty) picked up an All-PSAC finish in the discus Saturday, placing third with a mark of 133-0.

Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) placed in the top eight in two events Saturday. She had a provisional qualifying mark in the 800, finishing fifth with a time of 2:13.41. She also was eighth in the 1,500 (4:42.09).

Hailey Dell (sr. Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake) and Cristina Reimer (so. Chester Springs/Downingtown East) each placed in the 3,000 steeplechase, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Dell finished in 11:50.46, while Reimer’s time was 11:51.47.

The women’s 400 relay team, comprised of Samirah Barczynski (jr. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin), Katie Quinn (jr. Glenolden/Interboro), Sarah Messner (so. Maple Glen/Upper Dublin) and Brooke Mathews (fr. Reedsville/Indian Valley), finished fifth in 48.95 second.

Rachel Hunte (fr. Chester Springs/Downingtown East), Horstmann, Katie Colburn (so. Hanover/South Western) and Jessica Schlecter (jr. Chalfont/Central Bucks South) ran the 1,600 relay in 3:57.56 to finish seventh.

On the men’s side, Justin Germani (so. Birdsboro/Daniel Boone) and T.J. Longmore (jr. Lititz/Manheim Twp.) each earned All-PSAC honors with their third-place finishes Saturday.

Germani was third in the pole vault (15-7), ahead of teammate Percell Berry (fr. Norristown/Methacton), who finished fifth (15-1).

Longmore was third in the 110 hurdles, finishing in 14.66 seconds. Shane Harvey (so. Pattenburg, N.J./North Hunterdon) placed sixth in the 110 hurdles (15.05).

Kendel Dixon (jr. Atglen/Octorara) finished fifth and hit an NCAA provisional mark in the 400 with a time of 47.95.

Dixon also helped the 1,600 relay team finish fifth. He teamed up with Matt Reightler (so. Bethlehem/Northampton), Berry and Shaun Crump (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) to finish in 3:19.36.

Jack Iosue (fr. Manheim/Manheim Central) rounded out the place-winners for KU, finishing sixth in the javelin with a throw of 194-0.

KU women fourth, men fifth after day two at PSAC Championships

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. The Kutztown University women's outdoor track and field team is in fourth and the men are in fifth after the second day at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships on Friday at Millersville.

Ashley Pinter (so. Bethlehem/Liberty) had a second place in the hammer throw, and met an NCAA Division II provisional mark with a distance of 163-4. She also finished third in the shot put with a distance of 40-10 1/4.

Kelly Strickland (jr. Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) and Rachel Weigle (jr. Red Lion/Red Lion) each cleared 11-1 3/4 in the pole vault, sharing the height with two other vaulters. In a jump off, Strickland finished in fourth and Weigle in fifth. Melissa Fellenbaum (fr. Landisville/Hempfield) had a vault of 10-8 to finish seventh and Alison Wise (jr. Fivepointville/Garden Spot) tied for eighth at 9-8.

In the heptathlon, Katie Colburn (so. Hanover/South Western) moved up to sixth place with 3,989 points, after ranking eighth through four events on the first day.

Kristin Cupido (so. Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:33.00.

The rest of the track events were all preliminary rounds, with Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) meeting a NCAA Division II provisional mark with a time of 2:13.90 in the 800. She ranks second for the final round, which will take place Saturday afternoon.

On the men's side, Cody Hartzler (sr. Belleville/Indian Valley) finished in second place in the high jump with a height of 6-9 1/2, which also hit a NCAA Division II provisional mark.

Chris Boutsikaris (sr. Newton, N.J./Newton) also had a second place finish, with a hammer throw of 187-5, followed by Jason Rebuck (jr. Southampton/William Tennent) with a toss of 179-05. Both of the throws were NCAA Division II provisional marks.

The PSAC Championship will finish up on Saturday, with men's pole vault starting off the field events at 11 a.m. The track events will start at 12:30 p.m. with the women's 400 relay.

KU opens competition at the PSAC Outdoor Championships

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. The Kutztown University men's and women's track and field teams opened up the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships Thursday at Millersville University.

The PSAC Championships opened with the men's and women's 10,000, and the multi events.

Kristin Cupido (so. Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) finished seventh in the 10,000 with a time of 38:12.96.

Katie Colburn (so. Hanover/South Western) is currently in eighth place with 2,460 points after four events in the heptathlon.
