Six first-place finishes highlight KU's day at Kaiser Classic

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Six first-place finishers led the Kutztown University men’s outdoor track and field team at the Paul Kaiser Classic Saturday at Shippensburg.

Kendel Dixon (jr. Atglen/Octorara), Christian Boutsikaris (sr. Newton/Newton), Justin Germani (so. Birdsboro/Daniel Boone), Jason Rebuck (jr. Southampton/William Tennent), Kevin Rodgers (jr. Clifton Heights/Upper Darby) and T.J. Longmore (jr. Lititz/Manheim Twp.) all won individual titles Saturday.

Dixon won the 400 (48.87) and placed seventh in the 200 (23.17).

Longmore won the 110 hurdles (15.56), with Sam McKellar (sr. Allentown/Dieruff) finishing sixth (17.10).

Rodgers took the top spot in the 10,000 (34:30.09).

Rebuck was first in the discus (155-3) and second in the hammer throw (174-2).

Winning the hammer throw was Boutsikaris (174-6).

Germani rounds out the individual winners, finishing with the best mark in the pole vault (16-0). William Hodges (jr. Levittown/Neshaminy) was second (15-7) and Craig Sherwood (fr. Perkasie/Pennridge) was fifth (14-5 1/4).

Ryan Reich (fr. Oley/Oley Valley) was second in the 5,000 (16:24.38).

Frank Nick (fr. Kintnersville/Palisades) was sixth in the 3,000 (10:10.90) and Matt Reightler (so. Bethlehem/Northampton) was seventh in 800 (1:59.26).

Cody Hartzler (sr. Belleville/Indian Valley) finished second in the high jump (6-7 1/2).

Matt Cannell (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) was fifth in both the long jump (22-10) and the triple jump (43-5).

Jack Iosue (fr. Manheim/Manheim Central) was third in the javelin (192-5).

The Golden Bears also placed second in the 1,600 relay, as the team comprised of Joe Tavormina (so. Hellertown/Saucon Valley), Dixon, Percell Berry (fr. Norristown/Methacton) and Shaun Crump (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) finishing in 3:20.77.

KU was sixth in the 400 relay with Cannell, Dixon, Berry, McKellar recording a time of 43.24 seconds.


Cupido leads KU at Paul Kaiser Classic

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Kutztown University women’s outdoor track and field team was led by Kristin Cupido (so. Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) at the 2009 Paul Kaiser Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Cupido placed second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:44.98. Steph Grimm (sr. Fleetwood/Oley Valley) also placed in the 3,000, with a time of 10:54.87 to place fifth.

In the steeplechase, Hailey Dell (Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake) placed 11th with a time of 11:58.82.

Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) had fourth-place finishes in the 800 (2:18.09) and the 1,500 (4:37.33). Maureen Watson (jr. Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic) finished in sixth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:51.48.

The relay team of Rachel Hunte (fr. Chester Springs/Downingown East), Horstmann, Katie Colburn (fr. Hanover/South Western) and Jessica Schlechter (jr. Chalfont/Central Bucks South) finished in fourth place in the 1,600 with a time of 4:01.44

On the field side, Melissa Fellenbaum (fr. Landisville/Hempfield) finished in third place, winning a three-way jump off in the pole vault with a height of 10-5 1/2. Rachel Weigle (jr. Red Lion/Red Lion), part of the jump off with Fellenbaum finished in sixth.

Christina Costanzo (fr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) finished in sixth in the triple jump (35-8) and seventh in the long jump (17-0 3/4).

Allison Kipp and Amy Tucker (fr. Ridley/Ridley) each had seventh place finishes. Kipp in the javelin with a throw of 105-5 1/2 and Tucker in the high jump with a height of 4-11.

The Golden Bears will return to action at 5 p.m. Friday when they host the Kutztown Invitational.
