Kutztown ready to host the KU College Indoor meet

KUTZTOWN, PA (January 12, 2010) – The Kutztown University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams will host the annual KU College Indoor meet on Thursday, January 14 & Friday, January 15, 2010.

The event kicks off Thursday with the men’s heptathlon at 5:00 pm and women’s pentathlon at 5:15 pm. The conclusion of the men’s heptathlon will commence Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. with the running and field events to follow. Among the schools confirmed for the event are East Stroudsburg, Muhlenberg, Middlesex Community College, and Albright. Shippensburg will send some athletes to meet, but will not compete as a team.

“We are excited about hosting the KU College Invitational,” Kutztown track and field coach Ray Hoffman said. “This is a good opportunity for the community to come out and watch some quality student-athletes competing at a high level. It’s always good to run at home.”

This will be the Golden Bears’ only home meet of the 2009-10 indoor season. Kutztown has competed in one indoor meet so far this season, the Bucknell Open on Saturday, December 5.

The women enjoyed a strong showing at Bucknell with Maureen Watson (Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic) and Stephanie Grimm (Fleetwood/Oley Valley) finishing first and second respectively in the 3,000-meter run. Keri Brown (Southampton, NJ/Seneca) and Ashley Pinter (Bethlehem/Liberty) placed second in the one mile run and weight throws, respectively. All four athletes are expected to compete in the KU College Invitational.

Meanwhile, some of the top performers on the men’s side at Bucknell included Sean Gentry, who won the high jump, Will Hodges, who was third in the pole vault, and Matt Cannell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone), who was third in the long jump.

This meet gets the indoor track season cranked up as the Golden Bears will compete every weekend until the end of the February, with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships.

Admission to the KU College Invite is free.
