1999 PENNSYLVANIA STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
KUTZTOWN, PA Edinboro Univeritys Mens and Womens Cross Country teams swept the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. Kutztown University hosted the championships at KUs north campus course.
Womens Results
Edinboros women won the
championship on KUs 6,000 meter course with 39 points. Shippensburg placed second
with 62, East Stroudsburg finished third with 114, Indiana placed fourth with 134,
Millersville finished fifth with 138, and Kutztown placed sixth with 162. Todays
victory gives Edinboro its second-straight PSAC title win.
Winning the PSAC title was Indianas Sara Raschiatore who finished
in a time of 22.20.
Kutztowns Megan Seefeldt
(so. Kirkwood/Solanco) placed second in a time of 22.31. Other top
finishers for KU included Maria Schoellkopf (so. Reading/Fleetwood) who
finished 16th (23.28), Leanne Torchia (fr. New Cumberland/Trinity) who
finished 28th (24.16), Hillary Shreffler (so. Perkasie/Pennridge) who
placed 57th (25.18) and Kathy Shaldon (so. New Milford/Blue Ridge) who
finished 59th (25.29).
Edinboros women dominated the top ten with Lisa Petsche finishing
fourth in a time of 22.39. Gabriela Hnilkova placed fifth at 22.47, Kathy Breisch finished
sixth at 22.49 while teammate Ashley Hansen placed ninth at 23.03.
Shippensburgs Sherri Gutherie placed third in a time of 22.34 while teammate Tammy Cauler placed 12th (23.15). Also placing for Shippensburg was Erica Klingensmith who was 13th (23.22) and Leeann Weaver who was 14th (23.26).
Other individuals in the top 14 included East Stroudsburgs Amy Walbert who finished seventh (22.51), Bloomsburg's Michelle Woylniec who placed eighth (22.51), Millersvilles Meghan Edmiston who was tenth (23.10) and East Stroudsburgs Christel Hibbard who finished 11th (23.14).
Shippensburg won the PSAC titles in 1996 and 1997 and Slippery Rock won in 1995. Edinboro adds this years win to four consecutive titles from 1991-1994 and last years victory as well.
Mens Results
Edinboros men tallied 43 points to win the PSAC title on KUs 8,000 meter course. Lock Haven finished close behind in second with 45, while Shippensburg placed third with 92, Millersville was fourth with 105, East Stroudsburg was fifth with 132 and Kutztown finished sixth with 175. Todays victory gives Edinboro its eighth-straight PSAC win.
Edinboro was lead by standout Yimin Wu who claimed the title in a winning time of 25.05. Also placing for Edinboro was Tim Cron who placed sixth (25.43), Aaron Rowe who placed ninth (26.05), Bryan Lenzo who was 13th (26.28) and Ryan Kelly who finished 14th (26.30).
Jim Carney of Millersville placed second in the competition with a time of 25.14 while teammate Stephen Pizzulli finished fifth in a time of 25.30.
Steve Moyer of Lock Haven claimed third in a time of 25.19. Teammate Rob Mortensen finished close behind in fourth with a time of 25.26. Also placing for Lock Haven was Mike Gomes who was eighth (26.03) and Ryan Comstock who finished tenth (26.07).
Other individuals in the top 14 included Erik Reers of Shippensburg who was seventh (25.52), Matt Stohl of East Stroudsburg who placed 11th (26.20) and Ean King of Clarion who finished 12th (26.27).
Top finishers for KU included Greg Yerkes (fr. Fairless Hills/Harry S. Truman) who placed 18th (26.46), Phil Hoffken (fr. Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) who finished 32nd (27.19) and Jeremy Bellois (fr. Syosset, NY/Syosset) who placed 36th (27.23).
Todays championship victory was Edinboros eighth-straight PSAC win and they have now captured 15 of the last 16 PSAC titles.
