Game 2 - West Chester 2, West Virginia State 0
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Frank Gailey pitched a
two-hit shutout as West Chester defeated West Virginia State in game
two of the NCAA Division II North Atlantic Baseball Regional at
Kutztown University Thursday morning.
Gailey (6-3) struck out nine and walked
only three batters in the complete game effort.
Mark Gilliford was 2-for-4 for the
Golden Rams.
Mike Barron started the game for the
Yellow Jackets, going 7.2 inning and giving up six hits. Jamie
Fields finished the eighth inning. Pat Muldoon pitched the
ninth.
Eric Workman and Jonathan Stowers had
the hits for West Virginia.
West Chester scored its two runs in the
fourth inning. With two out, Blair Dameron struck out but
reached first on a wild pitch. Gilliford, who had doubled
earlier in the inning, advanced to third. Matt Cotellese
singled through the right side to knock in Gilliford. With the
bases loaded, Connor Thorp drew a walk to give WCU a 2-0 lead.
West Chester (36-16) will play the
winner of the California (PA) / Slippery Rock game at 4:00 PM on
Friday. West Virginia (31-15) drops to the losers bracket and
will play the loser of the Kutztown / Shippensburg game at 9:00 AM
on Friday.

KUTZTOWN, PA - Jeff Craig and
Matt Dierolf drove in two runs apiece to lead Kutztown to a 4-3
win over Shippensburg in game 1 of the NCAA Division II North
Atlantic Baseball Regional Thursday afternoon at Kutztown
University.
Craig hit a two-run home run
in the third to tie the score at two. With two out and runners
on second and third, Dierolf hit a two-run single to knock in
Mike McCardell and Ryan Loper.
Craig finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Dierolf was
2-for-3 with two RBI.
Shippensburg took an early lead in
the first, on an RBI single by Brandon White. SU made it 2-0
in the top of the third. With runners at first and third, Eric
Perlozzo stole second. Dierolf's throw went into centerfield,
allowing Tyler Redick to score from third.
After KU took the lead in the third,
Shippensburg cut it to 4-3 in the top of the fourth. Kasey
Kuhns reached on an error and eventually advanced to third. He
scored on a groundout by Scott Stern.
The pitchers clamped down at that
point.
Matt Keller (6-1)
pitched 7.1 innings for the win. He gave up three runs, one
earned, and struck out eight. Darin Gorski
relieved Keller with one out and a runner on third in the eighth.
On his first pitch, Goss lined to Sean Bond at third, who doubled
off the runner to end the threat. McCardell pitched the
ninth inning, striking out two, for his fifth save of the season.
Ross Buckwalter (5-3) went the
distance for Shippensburg. He struck out three and retired the
final 16 Golden Bear batters.
Perlozzo was 3-for-3 for the Raiders.
Kutztown (46-5) will face the loser
of the California (PA) / Slippery Rock game at 12:30 Friday
afternoon. Shippensburg falls into the losers bracket and will
face West Virginia State at 9:00 AM on Friday morning. The
loser of that game will be eliminated.
Game 3 - 4:00 PM - Slippery Rock

KUTZTOWN, PA - Slippery Rock scored
four runs over the final two innings to break open a close game and
defeat California (PA) in game three of the NCAA Division
II North Atlantic Baseball Regional Thursday afternoon at Kutztown
University.
Phil Butch, Billy Herman, Dan Hudeck,
M.J. Parsons and Scott Bender had two hits apiece for the Rock
(34-15).
Lee Rohan and Sam DiMatteo were both
2-for-5 for California (36-16)
With the the score tied at two in the
top of the eighth, Dan Hudeck led off with a single and advanced to
third on a sacrifice and wild pitch. Bender then hit a
sacrifice fly to bring him home with the go-ahead run.
Cal had a chance to tie it in the
bottom of the eight. DiMatteo hit a leadoff single, then stole
second. As SRU's players went back to their positions,
DiMatteo tried to advance to third, but was thrown out by pitcher
Craig Misiewicz. The Vulcans eventually put two more runners
on in the inning, but failed to tie it up.
The Rock broke it open in the top of
the ninth, scoring two runs on a throwing error and another on a
sacrifice fly by Matt Adams.
The Vulcans cut it to 6-3 on an RBI
single by Lee Rohan in its half of the ninth, but came no closer.
Misiewicz (4-2) was the winner,
tossing 3.2 innings of relief with four strikeouts. Rich
Hocanson went the first five, striking out five.
John Skarsky (3-1) took the loss for
the Vulcans, allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth. Chris
Doerschner pitched the first seven innings. He did not come
back for the eighth after taking a line drive off the leg that
caromed to third baseman Jeremy Potter, who then doubled off a
runner to end the seventh.
Cal took the lead in the first on an
RBI single by Alex Lefcakis. SRU tied in the fourth on a
Parsons single. The Vulcans regained the
lead in the bottom of the inning on a Jeremy Potter RBI ground out.
Slippery Rock then tied the game at two with a Dan Hudeck solo home
run in the sixth.
Slippery Rock advances to face West
Chester in Game 6 on Friday at 4:00 PM. California will take
on Kutztown in Game 5 at 12:30. A loss by the Vulcans in that
game would eliminate them from the tournament.

Game 4 - 9:30 AM -
Shippensburg 6, West Virginia State 1
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Matt Wright pitched a
four-hit complete game to lead Shippensburg to a 6-1 win over West
Virginia State in game four of the NCAA Division II North Atlantic
Baseball Regional Friday morning at Kutztown University.
Wright (6-3) struck out 11 while
walking only one.
Travis McGrath (4-3) took the loss
going five inning. Shane Long pitched 2.2 innings and Michael
Ziewicki pitched the final out for West Virginia.
For the Raiders, Justin Garber was
2-for-3 with two RBI. Scott Goss was 2-for-5 and Jamie Mengle
was 2-for-4.
Josh Miller was 2-for-4 for the
Yellow Jackets.
West Virginia State struck first in
the third inning with an RBI double by Miller.
Shippensburg answered in the bottom
of the third with four runs. With runners on the corners, Garber hit
a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game at one. Two
batters later, Brandon White singled to give Ship the 2-1 lead.
The damage appeared done, when McGrath fanned Mengle with two outs,
but the ball got away from the catcher. His throw to first
went off Mengle, allowing Goss to score on the play. Jared
Boger singled to knock in the fourth run of the inning.
Shippensburg added insurance runs in
the sixth and eighth innings.
Shippensburg (28-23) advances to the
games on Saturday. The opponent will be determined after
today's Game 5. West Virginia State (36-17) is eliminated.
Game 5 - 12:30 PM -
Kutztown 6, California (PA) 1
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Jason Mills pitched a
complete game, giving up one run and scattering seven hits to lead
Kutztown to a 6-1 win over California (PA) in game six of the NCAA
Division II North Atlantic Baseball Regional Friday afternoon.
Mills struck out three to improve to
a perfect 7-0 on the season.
Nate Kranz led KU's 16 hits, going
4-for-5 with an RBI and a hit by pitch. It was the 44th time
the sophomore's been hit by a pitch, breaking KU's career record
(Clay Kucklick, 2000-03). Sean Bond went 3-for-6 and Chad
Lightcap was 3-for-4. Ryan Loper was 2-for-5 and scored two
runs.
Jon Squeglia (5-2) started the game
for California, going 4.2 innings. He gave up four runs, three
earned. Nick Schreiber went 2.1 innings in relief. Andrew
Rafalski pitched the eighth and ninth innings.
Dustin Woodring was 2-for-3 for the
Vulcans, scoring the Vulcan's run.
Kutztown got on the board in the
fourth inning. With runners at second and third and two out, Matt
Kulbacki stuck out, but reached first on an error, allowing a run to
score.
The Golden Bears scored three runs in
the fifth inning to break it open. With two men on, Loper
singled in Kranz. Lightcap followed with a single to score
Mike McCardell. Mike Kacelowicz doubled down the left field
line with two outs to score Loper and make the score 4-0 Kutztown.
KU stretched it to 5-0 in the sixth
on an RBI single by Jeff Craig.
California would strike in the eighth
inning on a Sam DiMatteo RBI single.
Kutztown (47-5) advances to
Saturday's winner's bracket final against the winner of the West
Chester / Slippery Rock game at 9:00 AM. California (PA)
(36-17), which eliminated KU at the PSAC Championships two weekends
ago, is eliminated.
Game 6 - 4:00
PM - Slippery Rock 6, West Chester 5 (11 innings)

KUTZTOWN, PA - Matt Adams hit a solo
home run in the top of the 11th inning to give Slippery Rock a 6-5
win over West Chester in game six of the NCAA Division II North
Atlantic Baseball Regional at Kutztown University.
Adams was 3-for-6 with two runs and
four RBI in the game. He led off the 11th with the
game-winning blast to right field. It was the only run scored
after the fifth inning in a game that started as a slugfest, but
settled into a pitchers' duel.
SRU hurler Mike DeCola (4-0) went
five innings in relief for the win. He allowed just three hits
and struck out seven. DeCola pitched out of a jam in the 10th,
as West Chester had runners at the corners with none out, then
loaded the bases with one out. DeCola got a strikeout and a
groundout to end the threat. After the Rock took the lead,
DeCola got two strikeouts, a walk and a fly out to end the game.
SRU led 4-1 after three innings, on a
two-run single by Adams in the first and RBU hits by Adams and Scott
Bender in the third. West Chester scored on a Matt Cottelese
single in the second.
The Rams made it 4-2 in the fourth on
Mark Gilliford's RBI single. The Rock answered in the top of
the fifth when Jacob Oswalt hit a run-scoring single for a 5-2 lead.
West Chester knotted the score with
three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Bob Stumpo led off with
a home run to right field. Connor Thorp reached on a
strikeout-wild pitch and Nick Spisak singled. After a sac
bunt, Drew Pare flew out to score one run, then Gilliford singled in
the tying run, which proved to be the final scoring before extra
innings.
M.J. Parsons was 4-for-6, while
Bender and Rich Michalek each had three hits and Phil Butch added
two for Slippery Rock. Derek Blyzwick was the starter, going
six innings and striking out four.
Gillford led the Rams at the plate,
going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Pare and Blair Dameron each had
two hits. Chris Powl started and went the first seven, with
six strikeouts. Jason Bowman (5-2) pitched four innings of
relief and struck out four in the loss.
Slippery Rock (34-16) advances to
Saturday's winners' bracket final against Kutztown at 9:00 AM.
West Chester will face Shippensburg in an elimination game at 12:30
PM, with the winner to face the loser of the first game at 4:00 PM.
Game 7 - 9:00
AM - Kutztown 7, Slippery Rock 3

KUTZTOWN, PA - Mike McCardell struck
out 13 batters in a complete-game effort, to lead Kutztown to a 7-3
win over Slippery Rock in game seven of the NCAA Division II North
Atlantic Baseball Regional Saturday morning.
The victory, which was KU's
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record-tying 48th this
season, sends the Golden Bears (48-5) to the championship game on
Sunday.
McCardell (7-2) allowed eight hits
and three runs, while walking none.
KU was led at the plate by Ryan Loper,
who was 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run home run in the
third. Jeff Craig was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Nate
Kranz was 2-for-4 with two runs and Sean Bond was 2-for-5 with his
first home run of the season.
Matt Adams was 2-for-4 and Billy
Messer was 1-for-3 with a solo homer to lead the Rock (35-16).
KU took the lead in the top of the
first when Loper drove in Kranz on a single. Loper stretched
it to 3-0 with a two-run blast to center field in the third.
Messer's leadoff homer cut it to 3-1
in the bottom of the third. KU added single runs in the fourth
on Bond's homer, and in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Chad
Lightcap.
KU capped the scoring in the seventh
on back-to-back RBI singles by Jared Frey and Lightcap.
Kutztown plays the winner of
Saturday's final game for the Championship on Sunday at noon.
A loss by KU in that game would force a decisive game 11 afterwards.
Game 8 -
12:00 PM - West Chester 7, Shippensburg 4
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Mark Gilliford was
2-for-5 with a pair of homers to lead West Chester to a 7-4 win over
Shippensburg in game eight of the NCAA Division II North Atlantic
Regional at Kutztown University.
With the victory, West Chester
(32-15) advances to face Slippery Rock in game nine of the
tournament at 3:00 PM Saturday. Shippensburg (28-24) is
eliminated.
Gilliford blasted a two-run home run
as part of the Golden Rams' five-run sixth inning that gave them the
lead. After Gillford's homer made if 4-3, Matt Cotellese
singled in Charlie Kelly to tie he score. West Chester took
the lead when a two-out fielding error allowed Cotellese to score.
Nick Spisak's RBI single made it 6-4.
Gilliford hit a solo home home
run in the ninth to cap the scoring.
The Raiders had built a 4-1 lead
thanks to back-to-back triples by Justin Garberand Eric Perlozzo.
Garber drove in two on his three-bagger, then scored on Perlozzo's.
Ryan Gerber (4-3) pitched 4.2 innings
of scoreless relief for the win. He struck out two. Dave
Slusser allowed four runs on six hits over 4.1 innings. Drew
Pare was 2-for-5 for WCU.
Frank D'Agostino (4-4) took the loss,
allowing five runs over 5.2 innings, striking out five. Tim
Freshour tossed 3.1 innings of relief, striking out four.
Tyler Redick was 3-for-5 to lead the
Raiders, while Eric Perlozzo, Justin Garber, Brandon White and Kasey
Kuhns was 2-for-5.
Game 9 - 4:00
PM West Chester 11, Slippery Rock 10

KUTZTOWN, PA - Mark Gilliford hit the
tying and winning RBI's in the Rams' 11-10, 10 inning victory
against Slippery Rock in game nine of the NCAA Division II North
Atlantic Baseball Regional at Kutztown University.
West Chester, which trailed 9-0 after
two innings, still trailed 10-9 in the top of the eighth inning when
Gilliford uncorked his third homer in two games to knot the score.
Kevin McGrath led off the 10th with a
single. He stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
After a strikeout, Gilliford hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to
drive in the winning run.
Slippery Rock loaded the bases, on
two walks and an error, with one out in the bottom of the 10th.
But reliever Jason Bowman wiggled out of the jam, getting a pop up
and fly out to finish off the Rock.
Gilliford was 4-for-4 with two runs
and four RBI. His homer in the first game was his 11th of the
season. He belted two dingers in the Rams' win over
Shippensburg earlier on Saturday. McGrath was 3-for-6 with
three runs and a three-run homer. Brandon Wolfe was 2-for-3
and Nick Spisak scored two runs.
Rocky Davis (2-0) pitched a perfect
ninth inning to pick up the win. Bowman notched his fourth
save of the year. Eric Carmichael pitched five innings of relief,
with five strikeouts.
Matt Adams was 3-for-5 with three RBI
for Slippery Rock. Billy Herman was 2-for-4 with three runs
and two RBI and M.J. Parsons was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.
Craig Misiewicz (4-3) took the loss,
pitching 3.2 innings of relief. He struck out six.
Slippery Rock built a 9-0 lead,
scoring two in the first on Adams' two-run double, then sending 11
men to the plate in the second for a seven-run frame. Dan
Hudeck had a two-run single and Parsons hit his two-run blast in the
inning.
Gilliford hit a two-run single in a
three-run West Chester fifth to make it 9-3. SRU stretched it
to 10-3 in the bottom of the fifth on Adams' RBI double.
The Golden Rams took advantage of a
costly Rock error in the sixth. Spisak reached on a two-out
error to put runners at first and second. McGrath followed
with a three-run homer to make it 10-6.
West Chester loaded the bases in the
seventh. Charlie Kelly and Matt Colellese scored on the same
wild pitch, when SRU's catcher couldn't locate it. WCU then
made it 10-9 on a sacrifice fly by Connor Thorpe.
With the win, West Chester (33-15)
sets up a rematch of last year's North Atlantic Region Championship
game against Kutztown. The Rams won last year's title to
advance to the Division II Championship in Montgomery, AL. The
roles are reversed from last year, however, as Kutztown is
undefeated and West Chester must defeat KU twice on Sunday.
Game 10 begins at noon, with another to follow if WCU wins.
Slippery Rock's season comes to a
close with a 35-17 record.

Kutztown celebrates winning the 2007 NCAA Division II
North Atlantic Regional

KUTZTOWN, PA - Philip
Rummel pitched a complete game to lead Kutztown University to a 9-1
win over West Chester in the Championship Game of the NCAA Division II North Atlantic Regional.
With the victory, Kutztown wins the North Atlantic Regional Title and
earns a berth in the
2007 NCAA Division II "World Series" in Montgomery, Ala., May
25-June 1. Kutztown will face the winner of the Central
Region, either Nebraska-Omaha or Central Missouri State, on Friday,
May 25 at a time to be determined at Riverwalk Stadium in
Montgomery.
Kutztown (49-5)
has
won the regional tournament three previous times (2001, 2002, 2004*).
Kutztown has won the regional title each of the three times it has
hosted the tournament, having won on its home field in 2001, 2002
and now 2007.

The Golden Bears
set a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record for wins in a
season, passing the previous mark of 48 wins by Slippery Rock in
2003.
Rummel (8-1) gave up only one run,
while scattering eight hits and striking out six.
The Golden Bears were led at the
plate by North Atlantic Regional Tournament MVP Ryan Loper, who was
3-for-4 with two RBI. Chad Lightcap was 3-for-5. Sean
Bond, Mike McCardell and Mike Kacelowicz had two hits apiece.
Mark Gilliford was 2-for-3 with a
solo home run for West Chester (33-17).
Kutztown got on the board early,
scoring twice in the top of the first on a Loper double.
Garrison Rausch scored on an error and Kranz singled in Matt Dierolf
for a 4-0 lead in the second.
KU broke it open in the fifth,
scoring a run on a groundout by Dierolf, the putting two more across
on a two-out error. McCardell and Lightcap added RBI singles
in the eighth.
Gilliford broke up Rummel's shutout
bid with a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the eighth.
Kranz (SS), Loper (OF), Jeff Craig
(OF), Lightcap (DH) and McCardell (P) were all named to the
All-Tournament Team. Gilliford (1B) and Frank Gailey (P)
represented West Chester on the team. Slippery Rock had three
players named - Matt Adams (C), Billy Herman (3B) and MJ Parsons
(OF). Eric Perlozzo (2B) and Matt Wright (P) represented
Shippensburg.
*the 2004 regional title was later
vacated, due to an NCAA violation
