Barton (2-4), playing in its fifth and sixth games of the season, won 10-7 in the first game and 11-8 in the second.

Chad Lightcap (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) and Mike Kacelowicz (so. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) highlighted KU’s offense, each going 4-for-9 in the doubleheader.

Lightcap had three homers, six RBIs and three runs scored, while Kacelowicz also had a homer, two RBIs and three runs scored.

The Golden Bears (0-2) will play another doubleheader against Barton College at noon Sunday.

GAME 1: Barton 10, Kutztown 7

Barton College’s Aaron Watkins, Michael Parker and Allen Corbett went a combined 8-for-11 in the fifth, sixth and seventh spot in the batting order to down KU 10-7 Saturday in the first game of their doubleheader.

All three scored two runs each, and fueled by Ryan McCleney’s 3-for-4 showing with two RBIs, Barton College tagged KU starter Philip Rummel (sr. Exeter/West-Mont Christian) for nine runs on nine hits in 3.0 innings.

The Golden Bears took a 3-1 lead in the top half of the second inning on RBI hits from Kacelowicz and Mark Renda (r-fr. Lansdale/North Penn), and a sacrifice fly by Garrison Rausch (sr. Allentown/Parkland).

Barton College bounced back with four runs in both the bottom half of the second and the third to take a commanding 9-4 lead.

Kacelowicz homered in the fourth to cut it to 9-5, and Lightcap’s homer in the sixth, added with an RBI single from Jeff Kistle (fr. Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny), narrowed the gap to 10-7, but Barton pitchers Nick Nigito and John Anderson, who collected the save, shut down the Golden Bears from there.

GAME 2: Barton College 11, Kutztown 8

Barton College scored in every inning en route to an 11-8 win over KU in the final game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

A five-run second inning helped fuel Barton College’s win, putting the Golden Bears in a 6-0 hole before Lightcap hit a solo homer to lead off the third. Jared Frey (fr. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley), who went 2-for-3, had an RBI double in the inning, as well, to cut the lead to 6-2, but another two runs by Barton College in the bottom half made it 8-2.

Barton College added single tallies in the next three innings to close out the win.

Lightcap hit a three-run homer in the top of the sixth as KU scored four runs in the inning to cut the lead to 10-8, but Anderson shut out KU again in the top of the seventh for his second save of the day.

Darin Gorski (fr. Mount Joy/Donegal) started for KU, going 4.0 innings, while allowing nine runs five earned on 11 hits. He struck out five batters.

Barton College starter Chris Hill pitched five innings, allowed one earned run on four hits and struck out six.
