Gorski picks up fourth win, shuts down Bloomsburg
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
Golden Bears starting pitcher Darin Gorski (so. Mount
Joy/Donegal) held the Huskies to four hits and helped KU win
5-1 in the first game of a doubleheader against Bloomsburg at North
Campus Field Saturday.
Gorski pitched a
complete game, striking out four and allowing just one run over
seven innings. Three of the four hits he allowed came in the top of
the third, where Preston Hitchcock’s RBI single plated Carlos Medina
to tie the game at 1.
KU scored two runs
in back-to-back innings to pull away for the win.
Jared Frey (so.
Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) provided the big hit, smashing a
two-RBI double to center field in the bottom of the fourth, bringing
home Chad Lightcap (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) and James
Quigley (fr. Bensalem/Bensalem), to give KU a 3-1 lead. The
Golden Bears loaded the bases after Frey’s double, but couldn’t
manage any more runs in the inning.
Lightcap scored
again in the fifth, crossing home plate after a passed ball.
Quigley also scored
in the fifth on a single from catcher Matt Kulbacki (so.
Hershey/Hershey), who was 2-for-2, to make it 5-1.
Bloomsburg shuts out KU
1-0
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
The Golden Bears tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, but
Bloomsburg closed the door on its 1-0 win in the second game of the
doubleheader Saturday at North Campus Field.
Derick Reis (sr.
Jim Thorpe/Jim Thorpe) started for KU, holding Bloomsburg to
three hits and one walk over 5.2 innings, but the Golden Bears’
offense stranded eight baserunners.
Reis only struggled
in the fourth inning, when Bloomsburg’s Tyler Gansner singled in
Preston Hitchcock for the 1-0 lead.
That was all
Huskies starting pitcher Chris Tressler needed, as he held KU to
four hits over six innings. He struck out three and worked himself
out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of third.
Grant Kernaghan
came in for the Huskies in the seventh to collect the save, despite
allowing a one-out single to Golden Bears pinch-hitter Mark Renda
(r-fr. Lansdale/North Penn).
