GORSKI PICKS UP WIN NO. 7 IN 2-0 SHUTOUT OF WARRIORS
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
After a shaky start, Darin Gorski (so. Mount Joy/Donegal)
settled down and collected a three-hit 2-0 shutout in the first game
of the Golden Bears doubleheader against the Warriors Saturday at
North Campus Field.
The Warriors had
two runners on with one out in the first inning, but a failed double
steal and a pop up ended the inning for East Stroudsburg.
Gorski cruised from
there. The KU sophomore struck out seven and allowed just three hits
to collect his fifth complete game of the season. It was his first
shutout victory and his seventh win overall.
The only offense he
needed came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Mike Kacelowicz
(so. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) and Chad Lightcap (jr.
Boyertown/Boyertown) led off the inning with back-to-back
singles.
East Stroudsburg
pitcher Dave Boyer loaded the bases with no outs by hitting James
Quigley (fr. Bensalem/Bensalem), before Jared Frey
(so. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) smacked a two-run double to
give Gorski and the Golden Bears the lead.
Boyer held KU to
just four hits in the contest, with Corey Buletza (fr. St.
Clair/Pottsville) collecting the other Golden Bear hit.
LIGHTCAP LEADS GOLDEN BEARS TO 10-3 WIN IN GAME 2
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
The Golden Bears’ bats came alive in the second game of their
doubleheader with the Warriors Saturday at North Campus Field as KU
won 10-3.
KU starting pitcher
Derick Reis (sr. Jim Thorpe/Jim Thorpe) allowed three early
runs in the first inning, but settled down from there and held the
Warriors scoreless the next four innings.
Justin Jachowicz
(sr. Summit Hill/Panther Valley) and Jordan Smith (fr. New
Milford/Blue Ridge) each pitched scoreless innings to help the
Golden Bears complete the sweep.
Lightcap, hitting
in the leadoff spot, went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three
runs scored.
Kacelowicz also had
a good game, reaching base in all four at-bats with two walks
and two doubles. He scored a run and drove in another.
After East
Stroudsburg scored three runs in the top of the first, KU countered
with a three-spot of its own in the bottom half to tie the game at
3-3.
Frey hit his second
RBI double of the day, plating Lightcap and Kacelowicz, and
Michael Dugan (r-fr. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) drove in Frey
with a groundout to second base.
KU took the lead
the very next inning, with Lightcap doubling in Nole Saylor (fr.
Boyertown/Boyertown) and Quigley bringing Lightcap home with a
single.
Lightcap made it
6-3, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth.
KU added four more
runs in the fifth on RBIs from Saylor, Mark Renda (r-fr.
Lansdale/North Penn), Lightcap and Kaceolowicz to make it 10-3.
Jeff Kistle (r-fr.
Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny) led off the inning with a double and
scored on Saylor’s infield single.
