Concord's late rally downs Kutztown, 8-4

March 10, 2008

Concord (10-1)       8
Kutztown (4-7)       5

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Concord (W.Va.) University used a pair of four-run innings to come from behind and defeat Kutztown 8-5 on Monday at the Savannah Invitational.

Mike Kacelowicz was 3-for-5 with a pair of stolen bases.  Matt Kulbacki was 2-for-5 with a run scored.  Mike Dugan was 1-for-1 and drew three walks.

Chad Lightcap tied an NCAA Division II record by being hit by a pitch four times.  He shares the record with four others, the most recent was North Alabama's Eddie Gullen vs. Tuskeegee in 2006.

Kutztown took a 5-0 lead after the top of the sixth inning.  KU scored twice in the first on a fielder's choice RBI by Mark Renda and an RBI triple by Garrison Rausch

Concord cut the lead to 5-4 with four runs in its half of the sixth, then the Lions took the lead with another four spot in the eighth, with the rally assisted by a KU error that made all of the runs unearned.

Philip Rummel went the first 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.  Ryan Cassidy (0-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing the final three runs in the eighth.  Derick Reis and Trent Mertz also took the hill for KU.

KU (4-7) will play twice on Tuesday, taking on Fairmont State at 10 a.m. before battling the hosts of Armstrong Atlantic State at 2 p.m.
