SAVANNAH, Ga.
— Concord (W.Va.) University used a pair of four-run innings
to come from behind and defeat Kutztown 8-5 on Monday at the
Savannah Invitational.
Mike Kacelowicz
was 3-for-5 with a pair of stolen bases. Matt Kulbacki
was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Mike Dugan was 1-for-1
and drew three walks.
Chad Lightcap
tied an NCAA Division II record by being hit by a pitch four times.
He shares the record with four others, the most recent was North
Alabama's Eddie Gullen vs. Tuskeegee in 2006.
Kutztown took a 5-0
lead after the top of the sixth inning. KU scored twice in the
first on a fielder's choice RBI by Mark Renda and an RBI
triple by Garrison Rausch.
Concord cut the
lead to 5-4 with four runs in its half of the sixth, then the Lions
took the lead with another four spot in the eighth, with the rally
assisted by a KU error that made all of the runs unearned.
Philip Rummel
went the first 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with
three strikeouts. Ryan Cassidy (0-1) was tagged with
the loss, allowing the final three runs in the eighth.
Derick Reis and Trent Mertz also took the hill for KU.
KU (4-7) will play
twice on Tuesday, taking on Fairmont State at 10 a.m. before
battling the hosts of Armstrong Atlantic State at 2 p.m.
