KU, holds Golden Bears to four hits

N.Y. — The Kutztown University baseball team was held to four
hits and shut out 6-0 by Adelphi in a non-conference game Thursday
at Bonomo Memorial Field in Garden City, N.Y.
Chad Lightcap (jr.
Boyertown/Boyertown) and James Quigley (fr.
Bensalem/Bensalem) each had doubles for the Golden Bears, and
Mike Kacelowicz (so. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) and Bryan
Riggins (sr. Glenmore/Downingtown West) each had singles, but KU
wasn’t able to plate a run.
Adelphi (14-20)
also issued seven walks as KU (18-18) left 11 runners on base.
Adelphi only left two, scoring six runs on 11 hits.
Ryan Cassidy
(so. Langhorne/Archbishop Wood) started for the Golden Bears,
allowing two runs on four hits and a walk before leaving after four
innings. Adelphi’s first two runs come in the fourth inning, and it
added a single tally in the fifth and another two in the sixth to
take a 5-0 lead.
Adelphi’s Joe
Maranino led the way, going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a
run scored. Matthew Kenney finished 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and
a run scored, while Ryan Boelsen was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
KU will continue on
the road Friday at East Stroudsburg for the first of two
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East doubleheaders. First
pitch is slated for 1 p.m. The Golden Bears and the Warriors will
continue their four-game series at North Campus Field at 1 p.m.
Saturday.
