KUTZTOWN —
Brett Wigder was 3-for-5 with four RBIs to lead Kutztown to a
12-1 non-conference win over the University of Sciences.
James Quigley was 3-for-5
with three runs scored, while Mike Dugan and Mark Renda
had two RBIs apiece.
Five KU pitchers combined on a two-hitter. Trent
Mertz picked up his first collegiate win, pitching three innings
of scoreless relief with three strikeouts. Mike Bucklin and
Garrison Rausch pitched the first four innings, while Anthony
Fegely and Justin Jachowicz pitched a scoreless frame
each.
Kutztown scored two runs in the
first inning on an RBI single by Chad Lightcap and a
run-scoring groundout by Corey Buletza. KU added two
more in the third on RBIs by Dugan and Wigder, then
the Golden Bears broke it open on RBIs by Quigley and
Dugan in the fourth.
Kutztown improves to 9-10 and will
have one final tune-up at Lebanon Valley on Thursday before PSAC
East play begins at Bloomsburg Friday.
