GOLDEN BEARS
SWEEP PSAC EAST OPENER
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
—
The Kutztown University baseball team started the 2009
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division play
with a sweep over East Stroudsburg at North Campus Field on
Friday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (14-5, 2-0
PSAC East) beat the Warriors (12-8, 0-2 PSAC East) 6-1 in the
first game and 4-1 in the second.
The teams will travel to East
Stroudsburg for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. to
finish off the series.

GORSKI STRIKES OUT SEVEN IN KU WIN
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Golden Bears topped
East Stroudsburg 6-1 in the first game of a doubleheader, behind
a three hit, seven strikeout gem by
Darin Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal).
After allowing back-to-back singles
in the top of the second inning, Gorski settled in and retired
the next 12 batters he faced.
Michael Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) smacked
an 0-1 fastball over the centerfield fence for a two-run homerun
to pace the offense.
James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) had an RBI double
in the third and knocked in a run in the fourth.
Shayne Houck (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown) went 2-for-3
with a triple and a run scored.
The Warriors got an unearned run in
the sixth with a leadoff double by Chad Schlegel and
eventually scoring on an error.
Kevin Morganti (sr. Reading/Muhlenberg) pitched a
hitless seventh inning to finish off the game.
KULBACKI AND MAINI LEAD KU TO 4-1 WIN
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Golden Bears finished
off the sweep of the Warriors with a 4-1 win, powered by a
strong fourth inning.
Matt Kulbacki (jr. Hershey/Hershey) led off the
fourth with a solo homerun to leftfield on an 0-2 hanging curve,
followed by
Jeff Kistle (so. Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny) with a
single between short and third. Kistle stole second and advanced
to third when the throw got away from the shortstop and scored
on a groundout to short by
Kevin Conrad (fr. Glen Mills/Garnet Valley).
KU added two more run in the inning
on a two-out single by
James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem).
Adam Maini (jr. Macungie/Emmaus) picked up the mound
win, allowing only one run on seven hits and striking out four.
Mike Bucklin (jr. Shillington/Governor Mifflin)
pitched a shutout seventh inning to earn his third save of the
season.
