GOLDEN BEARS EDGE OUT WARRIORS 4-3

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. The Kutztown University baseball team extended its winning streak against East Stroudsburg with a 4-3 win in the first game of the doubleheader.

Ryan Cassidy (jr. Langhorne/Archbishop Wood) picked up the win on the mound, going four innings and striking out seven. The Warriors managed three runs and five hits off Cassidy.

Trailing 3-1 entering the top of the fifth, the Golden Bears started a rally going with consecutive singles by Dominick Fantanarosa (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville), Brett Wigder (so. Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) and Shayne Houck (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown). Houck's single knocked in Fantanarosa to pull the Golden Bears within one of the Warriors.

After Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) reached on an error to load the bases

James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) was hit by a pitch to force home Wigder. Houck scored what became the game winning run on an infield double-play.

Jason Herr (so. Harrisburg/C.D. East) pitched two-hit ball in the fifth and sixth inning to maintain the KU lead at 4-3. Mike Bucklin (jr. Shillington/Governor Mifflin) sat the Warriors down in order to earn his fourth save of the season.

GOLDEN BEARS COMPLETE SWEEP OF ESU

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. The Kutztown University baseball team completed a four-game sweep of East Stroudsburg with a 3-2 win Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an RBI single by Bryce Muth in the second, but KU came right back with a run in the third.

Mark Renda (so. Lansdale/North Penn) led off with a single and got to third on a double by

Shayne Houck (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown). Renda scored on a Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) ground out to shortstop.

Trent Mertz (so. Kutztown/Kutztown) surrendered another run in the fourth, lasted five innings while striking out six.

The Golden Bears trailed 2-1 going into their last at bats starting rallying with a one-out double by Houck. Kacelowicz singled and advanced to second on a throw to home which was too late to get Houck and tie the game at 2-2.

An error with two outs on a Jared Frey (so. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) grounder gave the Golden Bears the lead as Kacelowicz scored from second.

Mike Bucklin (jr. Shillington/Governor Mifflin), in his second inning of work, got three groundouts to end the game and earn the win.

Kacelowicz went 3-for-4 for KU, with two RBIs and a run scored.
