GOLDEN BEARS TAKE FIRST GAME AT MANSFIELD

MANSFIELD, Pa. The Kutztown University baseball team extended their winning ways in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division at Mansfield on Friday.

The Golden Bears (19-5, 6-0 PSAC East) beat the Mounties (10-14, 0-2 PSAC East) 7-2 in the first game and 4-0 in the second.

The teams will travel to Kutztown on Saturday to finish their season series. The doubleheader will began at 1 p.m. at North Campus Field.

GORSKI STRIKES OUT SEVEN IN 7-2 WIN

 

MANSFIELD, Pa. Darin Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal) pitched six innings of four-hit ball in the Golden Bears 7-2 win over Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division contest.

 

Gorski gave up an unearned run, striking out seven and walking only one to earn his fifth win of the season.

 

The Golden Bears (18-5, 5-0 PSAC East) gave Gorski early run support, taking advantage of a two- out error to score three runs in the first inning.

 

KU extended the lead to 5-0 in the top of the second inning. Jeff Kistle (so. Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny) led off the inning with a single and was moved up to second on a sacrifice by

Brett Wigder (so. Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull). Corey Buletza (so. St. Claire/Pottsville) followed up with a double to plate Kistle. Buletza scored an RBI single up the middle by Shayne Houck (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown).

 

The Golden Bears tacked on a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings. The run in the fourth started like the second inning with a leadoff single by Kistle and advancing to second by Wigder. Buletza knocked him in with a single.

 

Kistle and Houck each finished two-for-three, and Buletza was 2-for-4.

 

A triple by Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown) in the fifth inning scored Houck, who reached on a single.


 

MAINI SHUTS DOWN MANSFIELD IN 4-0 WIN

 

MANSFIELD, Pa. The Kutztown University baseball team remained undefeated in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with a 4-0 win at Mansfield on Friday afternoon.

 

The Golden Bears (19-5, 6-0 PSAC East) received a complete-game shut out from Adam Maini (jr. Macungie/Emmaus). Maini scattered four hits and struck out four to improve to 4-0 on the season.

 

The offense manufactured a run in the second inning with a one-out double by Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown) Michael Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) moved Lightcap to third with a groundout and Dom Fantanarosa (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville) knocked the run in with a single.

 

KU tacked a run in the fourth, coming from an RBI single by Dugan to knock in Jared Frey (so. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) who got on with a double.

 

A squeeze bunt by Corey Buletza (so. St. Claire/Pottsville) and an RBI single by Shayne Houck (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown) in the fifth inning completed out the scoring.

 

Dugan was the only player on either side to have multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
