Cassidy, Morganti keep Mountaineers’ bats quiet in 6-1 win

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Ryan Cassidy (jr. Langhorne/Archbishop Wood) and Kevin Morganti (jr. Reading/Muhlenberg) combined to pitch a one-hitter as the Golden Bears defeated Mansfield 6-1 in the first game of their doubleheader Saturday.

Corey Buletza (so. St. Clair/Pottsville) led the offense, going 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Shayne Houck (fr. Barto/Boyertown) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Houck’s two-RBI double in the bottom of the fourth moved KU in front 5-1 and Buletza tripled and scored in the sixth to make it 6-1.

KU opened the scoring in the second inning with Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown) scoring on a sacrifice fly by Dom Fantanarosa (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville). With two outs, Buletza singled to plate Michael Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City), who singled to center to reach base.

Mansfield scored an unearned run in the top of the third to cut the Golden Bears’ lead to 2-1, but another two runs by KU in the bottom half gave Cassidy a comfortable lead.

Cassidy pitched six innings to earn his fourth victory of the season. He struck out seven, while allowing just one unearned run on one hit and two walks. Morganti pitched a perfect seventh to close out the game.

Buletza’s two-RBI hit all KU needs in 2-1 win

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Two runs in the second was all the Golden Bears needed to complete their sweep of Mansfield Saturday, earning a 2-1 win in the second game of their doubleheader.

Corey Buletza (so. St. Clair/Pottsville) hit a two-RBI single in the second inning, plating Mark Renda (so. Lansdale/North Penn) and Matt Kulbacki (jr. Hershey/Hershey) for the early 2-0 lead.

Trent Mertz (so. Kutztown/Kutztown) started on the mound for KU, going six innings, allowing just one run on five hits and one walk. He struck out two.

Mike Bucklin (jr. Shillington/Governor Mifflin) shut the door in the seventh to pick up his fifth save of the season. He struck out two in the inning, while facing four batters.

Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) finished 4-for-4 and Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown) was 2-for-3.
