Gorski pitches three-hit gem, KU defeats Millersville 2-0

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Golden Bears got seven solid innings of shutout ball from starter Darin Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal) in a 2-0 win over the Marauders in game one of their doubleheader.

Gorski struck out six and allowed six baserunners on three hits and three walks.

KU was held to four hits in the game, but Jared Frey (jr. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) made the most of his single in the sixth, plating two runs.

Matt Kulbacki (jr. Hershey/Hershey), who finished with two of KU’s four hits, led off the inning with a single, but was erased on the basepaths after Michael Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) reached on a fielder’s choice.

Mark Renda (so. Lansdale/North Penn) followed Dugan’s lead and hit into a fielder’s choice, however, a Millersville error allowed Dugan to reach second base safely.

With two on and two out, Frey singled up the middle to give KU a 2-0 lead.

Gorski, who moved to 7-1 on the season, closed out the game from there, working out of a jam in the sixth and retiring the side in order in the seventh.

Marauders throw one-hitter, Golden Bears fall 2-0

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — Millersville pitchers Forrest Mengle and Andrew Clemens combined to pitch a one-hit 2-0 shutout of the Golden Bears in game two of their doubleheader Friday.

KU’s Cody Montz (fr. Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) reached safely on a bunt single in the third inning, but that was it for the Golden Bears. Montz advanced to third with two outs, but a flyout ended the threat for Mengle, who started and pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings. He struck out five and walked four.

Clemens relieved Mengle to record the final out and the save.

Trent Mertz (so. Kutztown/Kutztown) pitched the complete game for the Golden Bears, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out two.
