Stumpo key West Chester’s rout of Shepherd
WEST LAWN, Pa. — Brett Moyer allowed just two
hits as West Chester won 10-1 in Game 5 of the NCAA Division II
Atlantic Regionals Friday at Owls Field.
Moyer struck out nine batters and gave
up one run on a solo home run in eight innings of work, as the No.
1-seeded Golden Rams advanced to Game 7 where they’ll meet the
winner of Game 6 between No. 4 Mercyhurst and No. 5 West Virginia
State.

Stumpo fueled the West Chester offense, going 4-for-5 with
three runs scored and three RBIs. He finished a double shy of the
cycle.
Stumpo’s three-run homer to
right-center gave West Chester a 10-1 lead.
West Chester (44-10) took a 3-0 lead
in the second and made it 7-1 with single tallies in the sixth and
seventh and two runs in the eighth. Three of West Chester’s runs
were scored by sacrifice flies.
Shepherd (33-18), which is eliminated
from competition with its second loss, scored its only run on a home
run by Trey Stewart.
His solo shot in the seventh just
cleared the fence in right field.
Shepherd’s only other hit came in the
fourth on a single by Brian Collins.
Nick
Spisak, Blair Dameron, Joe Wendle
and Kyle Orensky each had two hits for the Golden
Rams. Spisak and Orensky both had two RBIs and Orensky had two runs
scored.
West Chester will return to the field
at noon Saturday for Game 7.
