KU swept at home
by West Chester Sunday
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
The Kutztown University baseball team dropped two games Sunday and
its third straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East
contest to West Chester at North Campus Field.
The 14th-ranked
Golden Bears (23-8, 9-3 PSAC East) lost 6-5 in eight innings and 8-1
in game two to No. 18 West Chester (26-9, 14-2 PSAC East).
KU and West Chester
split their games on Saturday at West Chester. The Golden Rams won game one 13-8 and the
Golden Bears won the second game 8-3.
The
Golden Bears will host Columbia Union in a non-conference
doubleheader at 1 p.m. Monday at North Campus Field.

tops KU 6-5 in eight innings
KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Golden Bears
loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning trailing by two
runs, but managed only one run
on a passed ball to fall to West Chester by a score of 6-5.
Jared Frey (jr.
Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) hit a one-out single to get
things started for KU in the bottom of the eighth. Back-to-back
walks to
Matt
Kulbacki (jr. Hershey/Hershey) and
Michael
Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) loaded the bases,
with each runner moving up a spot on a passed ball.
With the tying run on third and winning
run on second, West Chester's Eric Carmichael got an pop out to
second and a groundout to first to earn the
win.
Darin
Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal) started for the Golden Bears, going six innings. He allowed
three runs, only two earned, striking out three and scattering seven
hits along the way.
KU got two runs in the first inning off
of a bases loaded walk and an RBI single by Frey.
Shayne
Houck (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown) went 3-for-3 with two runs
scored and Frey finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
A two-out rally by the Golden Rams in the second cut the lead to 2-1and a run in
the fourth tied the game up.
Charlie Kelly led of the extra inning
frame with a home run, and an RBI single by Matt Cottelese turned out
to be the deciding run.
The Golden Bears left eight runners
stranded on the bases and committed three errors, one of which led
to a run.
West
Chester holds KU to three hits in 8-1 win
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Golden Bears scored a run in the second inning,
but that was it as the Golden Rams scored eight runs on 12 hits in a
8-1 win Sunday.
Matt
Kulbacki (jr. Hershey/Hershey) had one of KU's three hits,
driving in
James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) to tie the game at 1-1 in
the bottom of the second.
West Chester, however, scored seven runs
of the next four innings to put the game out of reach. Only three
runs were earned as KU committed seven errors.
Matt Cotellese and Blair Dameron led
West Chester, recording seven of the team's 12 hits.
Cotellese finished a triple shy of the
cycle, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Dameron was
4-for-5, scoring two runs and driving in another.
