Kulbacki scores game-winning run, KU wins 10-9

KUTZTOWN, Pa. Matt Kulbacki (jr. Hershey/Hershey) doubled in the tying run and scored game-winner as the Kutztown University baseball team bounced back to defeat Wilmington (Del.) University 10-9 Thursday at North Campus Field.

Kulbacki finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

His RBI double in the bottom of the eighth erased the lead Wilmington took in the top half, scoring six runs as KU committed three errors in the inning.

Kulbacki scored on a sacrifice by Jeff Kistle (so. Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny), who finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Golden Bears (17-5) held an 8-3 lead heading into the eighth before the Wildcats (10-8) rallied back.

The Wildcats led early, scoring three runs over the first four innings.

The Golden Bears didn't crack the scoreboard until they strung together six straight two-out hits in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead.

Shayne Houck (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown), who finished 3-for-3, sparked the two-out fifth-inning rally with one of his three infield singles.

Michael Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City), who finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, hit a two-run double to the fence in left field to give KU the 4-3 lead.

Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown), who was 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored in the fifth inning and hit a solo home run to lead off the seventh, sparking a three-run rally.

Jason Herr (so. Harrisburg/C.D. East) came in relief of Jordan Smith (so. New Milford/Blue Ridge) to pitch the final 1 2/3 innings and earn the win. Smith pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief of starter Kevin Morganti (sr. Reading/Muhlenberg).

KU will return to action at 1 p.m. Friday with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East doubleheader at Mansfield. The Golden Bears will return home to complete the four-game series with the Mountaineers with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
