Shayne Houck (fr.
Barto/Boyertown) led the Kutztown University baseball
team to a 12-4 win over Bloomsburg University in the Builder
Invitational Sunday.
The
Golden Bears (7-2) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning,
using eight walks to plate five runs. The 12 runs pushed KU's
four-day total to 68 at the Builder Invitational.
Frey
finished with three RBIs and Houck was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Both
hit two-RBI doubles in the seventh to push KU’s lead to 12-4.
Jeff Kistle (so.
Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny)
also
had a sacrifice and scored a run.
Ryan Cassidy (jr.
Langhorne/Archbishop Wood)
pitched five innings for KU collecting the win and
Mike Bucklin (jr.
Shillington/Governor Mifflin)
picked up his second save pitching four shutout innings.

The Kutztown University baseball team, led by
Shayne Houck (fr. Barto/Boyertown)
and
James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem)
, battled back to defeat Bloomsburg University 13-11 in the nightcap
of the Builder Invitational Saturday.
The Golden Bears (6-2) trailed 11-4 after 3 1/2 innings, but a run
in the bottom of the fourth, two in the seventh and six in the
eighth helped lead them back.
Kevin Morganti (jr. Reading/Muhlenberg)
started on the mound for KU giving up 11 runs over the first four
innings, but settled down and pitched shutout ball in the fifth,
sixth, seventh and eighth innings to collect the win.
Jason Herr (so. Harrisburg/C.D. East)
pitched a scoreless ninth to collect the save.
Houck finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, while
Quigley was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Corey Buletza (so. St. Clair/Pottsville)
was 3-for-6, including a double in the eighth to give KU a 13-11
lead.
Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown)
scored
three runs, while
Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain)
and
Jared Frey (jr. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley)
each scored twice. Frey was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Kacelowicz was 2-for-5 with
an RBI.
Dom Fantanarosa (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville),
who scored twice, recorded the game-tying RBI single in the eighth.
KU will return to
the diamond Sunday and play Bloomsburg as the No. 1 seed in the
championship game at 3 p.m. KU is 4-0 at the invitational, scoring
54 runs, while Bloomsburg is 2-2.

Feb. 21 —
The Kutztown University baseball team scored nine runs over the
final four innings to hold off East Stroudsburg in a non-conference
15-8 win at the Builder Invitational Saturday morning at War
Memorial Stadium.
Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain)
led
the Golden Bears (5-2) going 4-for-5, scoring four runs and driving
in two more.
Jared Frey (jr. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley)
and
Shayne Houck (fr. Barto/Boyertown) each had three hits,
with Frey recording three RBIs and a run scored and Houck scoring
once and driving in another run.
James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem)
also
had three RBIs, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown)
highlighted the top of the batting order, as well, going 1-for-2
with two walks, three runs scored and two RBIs.
Trent Mertz (so. Kutztown/Kutztown)
started for KU, going 4 1/3 innings while striking out five. He
allowed three runs on four hits and one walk.
Mertz
left the game with a 6-3 lead, and
Adam Maini (jr. Macungie/Emmaus),
who picked up the win in relief, pitched three innings, striking out
three and allowing five runs — four earned — on two hits and four
walks.
Mike Bucklin (jr. Shillington/Governor Mifflin)
closed out the game, pitching 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one
baserunner on a hit for his first save of the year.
KU
took a 10-4 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but East Stroudsburg
battled back with four runs to cut it to 10-8. The Golden Bears,
however, put the game out of reach with five runs in the top of the
ninth.
Corey Buletza (so. St. Clair/Pottsville)
scored two runs for KU from the leadoff position.
KU
has now scored 43 runs in the first three games of the Builder
Invitational.
The
Golden Bears will be back in action later today with a contest
against Bloomsburg, set to start at 6 p.m.

Feb. 20 - Game 2: Kutztown 16, Apprentice
School 6
The
Kutztown University baseball team scored in bunches as it topped
Apprentice School 16-6 on Friday afternoon at the Builder
Invitational. The game was halted after the eighth inning as the
10-run rule came into effect.
The
Golden Bears (4-2) used the long ball to win as
James
Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) and
Corey
Buletza (so. St. Claire/Pottsville) each belted two-run homers,
and Mark
Renda (so. Lansdale/North Penn) added a three-run shot. The trio
each recorded three hits, while Buletza added two stolen bases.
KU
jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the fourth inning after Quigley's shot,
before Apprentice narrowed the score to 9-6 in fifth. The Golden
Bears followed that up with multiple run innings to run away with
the game.
Matt
Patteson (fr. Cedar Crest/Lebanon) left the game with a 9-6
lead, but did not last long enough to get the win.
Anthony Fegely (so. Exeter/Exeter) finished last 3 2/3
innings allowing only two hits and recording three strikeouts to
pick up the win.
Dominick Fantanarosa (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville) collected
three hits, three RBIs and scored two runs.
Mike
Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) had two RBIs for
the Golden Bears.
The teams combined
for 30 hits, including eight that went for extra bases, and they each
committed three errors.
Apprentice (3-1)
was led by Kyle Center, who had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored.
Designated hitter Chris Baker had three hits, while Bryce Beale had two hits and an
RBI.
KU scored runs in
seven of eight innings, including five that featured multiple runs.
The Golden Bears will continue at the Builder
Invitational Saturday with two games. The first is at 9 a.m. against East Stroudsburg and
the second at 6 p.m.
against Bloomsburg.

Darin
Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal) pitched six scoreless
innings and four players drove in two runs each to lead Kutztown
to a 12-0 win over Lock Haven in the first day of the Builder
Invitational at the Apprentice School in Hampton, Va.
Gorski struck out nine and walked two,
allowing one hit for his first win of the year. Jordan

struck out three
over two scoreless innings and
