SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH BLOOMSBURG
BLOOMSBURG, Pa.

The Kutztown
University baseball team split its Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference East doubleheader at Bloomsburg on
Friday afternoon.
KU lost 1-0 to the
Huskies (14-22, 5-13 PSAC East) in the first game,
pushing KU's losing streak in the PSAC East to four straight.
The Golden Bears
(24-9, 10-4 PSAC East) got back on the winning track with a 7-5 win
in the second game.
The two teams will play again on
Saturday at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader at North Campus Field.

GOLDEN BEARS
DROP 1-0 DECISION AT BLOOMSBURG
BLOOMSBURG, Pa.

Darin
Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal) pitched six innings of
four-hit ball and struck out nine in the Golden Bears' 1-0 loss to Bloomsburg in
the first game of their doubleheader.
The only run of the game came in the
bottom of the fifth, starting with a leadoff double by Nick
Ferdinand. A sacrifice bunt moved him to third and Tony Donofry
singled the run in with two outs.
Gorski suffered his first loss of the
season, giving him a 5-1 record with a 1.26 ERA.
The KU offense was limited all day
as winning pitcher Grant Kernaghan allowed six baserunners off of
four hits.
Collecting the hits for the Golden Bears
were
Corey
Buletza (so. St. Claire/Pottsville) with two singles.
James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem)
and
Brett
Wigder (so. Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) each had a single.
KACELOWICZ GRAND
SLAM LEADS KU TO WIN
BLOOMSBURG, Pa.

The Golden Bears' bats came alive in the second game with a 7-5
win over Bloomsburg.
After being shut out 1-0 in game one, KU
got on the board with four runs in the first inning.
Michael
Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) and
Shayne
Houck (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown) reached on back-to-back
singles, followed by a walk to
James
Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) to load the bases.
Mike
Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) made the Huskies
pay with a grand slam.
Trent Mertz
(so. Kutztown/Kutztown) pitched six innings, allowing two
runs on four hits while striking out three to earn the win.
The Golden Bears tacked on
two insurance runs in the top of the seventh, which proved to be the
difference in the win.
The two runs came off of four straight
singles by Dugan, Houck, Quigley and Kacelowicz. Houck finished the
game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a double and Kacelowicz went
2-for-4 with five RBIs.
Mike
Bucklin (jr. Shillington/Governor Mifflin) came in to
preserve the save after the Huskies managed three runs without KU
recording an out in the bottom of the seventh. Bucklin allowed only
one hit and struck out two, earning his sixth save of the season.
