GOLDEN BEARS DROP 1-0 DECISION AT BLOOMSBURG

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. Darin Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal) pitched six innings of four-hit ball and struck out nine in the Golden Bears' 1-0 loss to Bloomsburg in the first game of their doubleheader.

The only run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth, starting with a leadoff double by Nick Ferdinand. A sacrifice bunt moved him to third and Tony Donofry singled the run in with two outs.

Gorski suffered his first loss of the season, giving him a 5-1 record with a 1.26 ERA.

The KU offense was limited all day as winning pitcher Grant Kernaghan allowed six baserunners off of four hits.

Collecting the hits for the Golden Bears were Corey Buletza (so. St. Claire/Pottsville) with two singles. James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) and Brett Wigder (so. Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) each had a single.

Michael Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) and Shayne Houck (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown) reached on back-to-back singles, followed by a walk to James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) to load the bases. Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) made the Huskies pay with a grand slam.

Trent Mertz (so. Kutztown/Kutztown) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three to earn the win.

The Golden Bears tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh, which proved to be the difference in the win.
