BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Dan Latorre passed for 210 yards and two touchdowns to lead Bloomsburg to a 31-21 win over Kutztown in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener Saturday afternoon at Redman Stadium.

Latorre hooked up with Kyle Ream on touchdown passes of 55 and 28 yards. Ream finished with 102 yards on four catches. Derrick Price and Kenny Domzalski each ran for a TD, but were held to a combined 95 yards, well below their season averages.

Shane Martin passed for 161 yards and two touchdowns, one each to Kaleb Klosky and Jason Uhlig. Martin ran for 56 yards on 15 carries. Matt Dineen accounted for KU’s other scores, field goals of 37 and 34 yards.

The Golden Bear defense put up a valiant effort. Bloomsburg, which entered the game as the No. 2 team in rushing at 330 yards per game, managed just 160 yards on the ground.

Khalief Evans had 10 tackles, while David Cressman had a sack among his eight hits. Brent Howard had an interception.

Kutztown opened the scoring late in the first quarter on a 37-yard field goal by Matt Dineen. The kick capped a 14-play, 46-yard drive.

Bloomsburg tied it at 3-3 with a 35-yard field goal by Jon Koenig, capping a 46-yard scoring drive.

KU retook the lead with 3:25 to play in the first half, when a scrambling Martin found Klosky for a 15-yard touchdown. BU answered right back when Ream scored on a 55-yard pass from Latorre to make it 10-10 going into halftime.

The Huskies took their first lead midway through the third. After a punt return and facemask gave BU the ball at the KU 28, Latorre and Ream hooked up again on the next play for a 17-10 lead.

On KU’s next possession, Dineen made it 17-13 with a 34-yard field goal, capping another 46-yard drive.

BU stretched its lead to 24-13 late in the third when Kenny Domzalsky capped a 63-yard march with a 7-yard run.

Kutztown drove 80 yards on 18 plays, with Martin completing 9-of-13 passes for 60 yards, including three third down and one fourth down conversion. Martin hit Uhlig for a 2-yard score and then found Nick Aspromonte on the two-point conversion to make it 24-21 with 1:47 to play.

The ensuing on-side kick was recovered by the Huskies. After picking up two first downs on QB keepers by Latorre, KU allowed Price to score on a 9-yard run for a 31-21 lead with 1:16 left.

KU’s final chance ended after Martin failed to complete a pass and BU ran out the clock.
