KU announces 2009 incoming freshmen class for football

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Kutztown University head football coach Raymond Monica has announced his 2009 incoming freshmen class, which includes 21 student-athletes from Pennsylvania.

They will join the KU football team for the upcoming 2009 season, which starts on Aug. 29 at St. Anselm in Manchester, N.H.

KU finished the 2008 season 5-6 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC East.

The Golden Bears opened spring practice on March 16 and concluded with the Maroon & Gold Spring Game at 1 p.m. April 11 at University Field.

Running backs
Laquan Frazier (5-9, 180, Sharon Hill/Academy Park)
will be added to the KU backfield. He also compete for time at defensive back. He was a first-team All Del-Val first team in his junior and senior seasons. Frazier was also named second-team All Delco and an All-State honorable mention. Frazier plans on majoring in Criminal Justice while at KU.

D.J. Harrison (5-8, 160, York/Central York) was a two-year varsity starter at running back for Central York High School, where he amassed 1,607 yards and 29 touchdowns on the ground. He was named the York County Player of the Year and was selected to the PIAA third team.

Cody James Lamoreaux (6-1, 190, Sweet Valley/Lake Lehman) was a three-year varsity letterwinner while at Lake Lehman High School. He also was a two-time All-Conference selection. He also may work out as a defensive back for the Golden Bears.

Running back Chris McCormick (5-10, 170, West Chester/West Chester East) is set to join the KU backfield. He played for West Chester East High School and was named first team All-Chestmont and second team All-Area returner. McCormick plans to study software development at KU.

Another offensive weapon set to join the team is Joshua Thomas Mastromath (5-6, 155, Dresher/Upper Dublin). A running back and receiver while at Upper Dublin, he was named an American Conference MVP in 2008.

The versatile Anthony Nattle (6-2, 190, Pheonixville/Phoenixville), a running back, wide receiver and corner back at Phoenixville, will be joining the Golden Bears. He was a 2008 recipient of the Tall Cedars Award and PIAA Officials Sportsmanship Award. He is also a PAC-10 first team defense and second team offense selection. He was a PAC-10 second team offense selection in 2007 and Honorable Mention in 2006.

Eric Ofcharsky (5-9, 170, Clarks Summit/Abington Heights) will join the Golden Bears after playing running back, corner back and kick returner at Abington Heights High School. He was a member of a district champion team and two league championships. Ofcharsky was named to the all-region and all-conference teams as well as the Sweet 16 Dream Team.

Receivers
Jake Cahill (6-0, 185, Ridley Park/Ridley)
joins the Golden Bears at wideout, earning two varsity letters on the 2006 and 2007 Central League Champion Ridley High School football team. He also helped Ridley win the 2007 District 1 Championship and finish as the 2007 Eastern State runner-up.

Joining the wide receiving corps is Dominick Massey (6-2, 189, Abington/Abington). Massey was a varsity letter winner and Suburban One National first team wide receiver while playing at Abington High School. He plans to major in media design at KU.

Robert P. Royal (Drexel Hill/Cardinal O’Hara), from Cardinal O’Hara, will join the offense at wide receiver. He plans to major in political science with pre law studies.

Alex Swavely (6-4, 225, Fleetwood/Reading Central Catholic) will join the Golden Bears at tight end with a possibility of linebacker on the defensive side of the ball. Swavely was a member of Reading Central Catholic where he was first-team All-Section for tight end, linebacker and punter. He was a team captain and a three-year varsity letter winner in football and basketball. Swavely plans on majoring in criminal justice at KU.

Offensive Line
Set to join the offensive line at the center position is Chase Fraley (6-1, 265, Elysburg/Southern Columbia), who was a two-year varsity letter winner at Southern Columbia High School. He was a member of the 2006 State and District IV Championship team and 2008 District IV Champions. Fraley was named the team offensive line MVP as well as PIAA Class A second team selection. He received first team honors by the PHAC II, two-time Reading Eagle All-Anthracite team selection.

Kevin Lalor (6-2, 260, Drexel Hill/Cardinal O’Hara) lineman from Cardinal O’Hara, will be joining the Golden Bear offense. Lalor was a three-year varsity letter winner and second team All-Catholic. He was twice named the Delco Weekly MVP and an honorable mention four times.

Joining the offensive line is John Zavorski (6-3, 255, Longhorne/Neshaminy), who was a two-year varsity letter winner while at Neshaminy High School. He was named to the second-team All-League and All-Trentonian. Zavorski is also a Harry E. Franks Memorial Scholarship recipient. While at KU he plans on majoring in education.

Defensive Line
Garret Urban (6-3, 225, Glen Mills/Unionville)
joins the Golden Bears as a defensive end. While at Unionville he was a second-team All-South Eastern Pa. defensive end, first-team All-Area and first-team All-League selection.

Another defensive end addition will be Ben Woody (6-3, York/York Suburban), from York Suburban High School. He could also see some time at tight end. Woody was a three-time letter winner, he was also YAIAA All-County offense and defense. He plans to major in Elementary Education at Kutztown.

Linebacker
Chance Gaines
(5-11, 215, State College/State College) will add depth to the linebacker position. He joins the Golden Bears after being a two-year varsity letter winner for football. Gaines was a first-team Mid Penn All-Star and a member of the 2008 Mid-Penn champions, as well as District 6-10 Regional champions.

Max Liddell (6-2, 221, Lewisberry/Red Land) will play at linebacker for the Golden Bears. He was an all-conference first team player on the District 3-AAA 2006 champion football team. He is a two-time all-underclassman and helped his team win the 2007 Mid-Penn Keystone Conference Championship.

Kyle Ueberroth (6-4, 225, Stevens/Cocalico) will join the Golden Bears at linebacker. He was a captain for Cocalico High School team which finished 10-2 and made it to District Round 2. While at Cocalico he was a two time second-team all star and part of the 2009 Tri-County All Star game. Along with football he is also part of the wrestling team, where he was a Lancaster Lebanon League Section Two Wrestler of the Week in January. He expects to major in criminal justice at KU.

Secondary
Jake Zeigler (5-8, 155, Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg)
will be a new addition to secondary at defensive back. While at Mechanicsburg High School he was named second team All-State, Patriot News first team, second team offense and a Sentinel first team defense selection. He plans to major in business while at KU.

Special Teams
Tim Freiling (6-5, 205, Philadelphia/Northeast High School)
will be joining the Golden Bear special teams at kicker and punter. Freiling was a four-year member of the Northeast High School team and was named first and third team All-City football. He was also on the 2007 PIAA District 12 Soccer champion, and also played baseball in high school. Freiling plans on majoring in Elementary Education and Coaching.
