KU (19-8,
10-2 PSAC) entered Saturday’s contest with the second seed in the PSAC
playoffs already sealed up, and with the victory, KU will next host
Millersville at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round of the PSAC
playoffs. Millersville clinched the third seed today as it defeated
West Chester 67-37.
This is KU’s first
PSAC East title since 1988, when the Golden Bears went 10-2 in PSAC East play.
Also, this is Bernie Driscoll’s first PSAC
East title as a head coach.
The game was marred
by 61 fouls, with seven players fouling out of the game.
KU made the most of
the fouls, setting single-game school records for free throws made,
35, and attempted, 51. Woodlin shot 12-of-16 from the
line and Stephen Dennis (so. West Chester/Henderson) scored
11 of his 21 points from the line.
Ryan Washington
(r-fr. Glendale/Wissahickon) was the third Golden Bear in double
figures as he netted 13 points and grabbed four rebounds, while
Mike Connolly (fr. Souderton/Souderton) was a consistent threat
off the bench scoring nine points.
KU, which led by
three at 68-65 with 3:58 left in the game, used a 9-2 run to create
the separation needed to hold off East Stroudsburg.
Reigning PSAC East
Player of the Week Chris Bach led the way for East Stroudsburg
(18-9, 6-6 PSAC East), as he scored 18
points and grabbed 15 boards, picking up the slack for East
Stroudsburg’s leading
scorer Channon Easley, who fouled out early in the second half with
only seven points and four rebounds. Easley actually finished with a
rare sixth personal foul, drawing a technical foul after he was
whistled for his fifth personal with 13:58 to play.
Pat Fleury, Chris
Bach and Aaron Pinckney also fouled out for ESU. Dave Ben,
