KU rallies in
second half for 78-73 win over West Chester

KUTZTOWN, Pa.
– Dave Ben (jr. Coatesville/Coatesville) scored 16 points and
hit a late 3-pointer which helped propel the Kutztown University
men’s basketball team to a 78-73 win over West Chester Saturday at
Keystone Hall.

left in the second half gave KU a 76-73 lead, and Stephen Dennis
(so. West Chester/Henderson), who scored 17 points, hit two free
throws to help the Golden Bears sweep their regular-season series
with West Chester.

KU, for the
second straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East
contest, trailed by double-digits at halftime, but again scored
52 second-half points to remain in a tie for first place in the
division with Cheyney.
Nate Edwards
(so. Philadelphia/Northeast Catholic), Andre Woodlin (jr.
Philadelphia/Central) and Ryan Washington (r-fr. Glendale/Wissahickon)
also reached double-digit scoring for the Golden Bears (14-7, 6-1
PSAC East). Edwards, who finished with 15 points, hit three
3-pointers in the game, including two in the second half.
Woodlin and
Washington each picked up double-doubles. Woodlin had 14 points and
10 boards, while Washington had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
West Chester
(11-11, 2-5 PSAC East), led by Kenneth St. George’s team-high 19
points, led by 11 at 52-41 with 11:29 left in the second half, but
KU went on a 23-10 run to take a 64-62 lead.
Both squads
exchanged the lead four times until Ben hit the game-deciding
3-pointer.
KU went 19-of-25
from the free-throw line and shot 48.6 percent in the second half
after a 25.7-percent showing in the first. Dennis, who had just two
points in the first half, went 9-of-10 from the free-throw line in
the second half.
Aaron Smith and
Kehinde Roberts also reached double digits for the Golden Rams with
12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Golden Bears
will resume play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mansfield for a PSAC East
contest. KU won 88-75 in their first meeting at Keystone Hall on
Jan. 16.
