KUTZTOWN,
Pa.
—
Stephen Dennis scored 27 points to lead Kutztown to an 88-75
win over Mansfield in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern
Division victory at Keystone Hall.
Dennis scored 18 of his
points in the first half and finished with his fifth-straight
20-point game. He added seven rebounds, six assists, three
blocks and three steals.
Dave Ben and Andre
Woodlin scored 18 points apiece. Ben scored 11
in the second half, while Woodlin notched 14 of his after
halftime.
The win snaps Kutztown's
eight-game losing streak vs. the Mountaineers, dating back to
the 2004-05 season. KU's last win over Mansfield before
Wednesday was in the PSAC quarterfinals in 2004. The
Golden Bears have now won eight of their last 10 games,
including their last three contests.
Kutztown took command of the
game late in the first half. Up 26-24, Kutztown closed the
first half with a 14-3 run for a 40-27 lead at the break.
Dennis scored six points in the run.
The Golden Bears extended the
lead to 19 less than two minutes into the second half, before
the Mountaineers slowly chipped away at the lead. Mansfield used
a 10-3 run to pull within eight, 55-47 with 11:24 left, however
a three pointer by Ben and layup by Dennis put the
Bears back ahead by 13 with 10 minutes to play and Mansfield got no
closer than nine the rest of the night.
Ryan Washington netted 13
points for KU, while Jeremy Coombs led the team with 11
rebounds.
Dhimitri Luarasi led Mansfield
with 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting. Chris Greene added 18
and John Hampton scored 11.
