Kutztown University used stellar defense to defeat
Millersville University 78-60 in convincing fashion Wednesday
night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East men's basketball at Keystone Hall.
With the win, KU takes sole possession
of first place in the PSAC East. KU is
11-5 overall, 3-0 in the PSAC East. Millersville falls to
2-1 in league play and 12-5 overall.

Woodlin
(jr. Philadelphia/Central) scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Jeremy Coombs
(so. Philadelphia/Northeast Catholic)
scored 13 points and had eight boards.
Stephen Dennis (so. West Chester/Henderson) notched 14 points despite foul trouble and a
second-half injury limiting his minutes. Ryan
Washington (r-fr. Glendale/Wissahickon) added 11 rebounds, six points, five assists and
three blocks.
Millersville had just four
players score in the game, led by Reggie Bates with 21. Charlie Parker added 18 and Bernard Brown notched 14. RayQuan Miles was the only other Marauder in the scoring column
with seven points.
KU limited Millersville
to 34 percent shooting (23-for-68), including a dismal 1-for-18 from
beyond the 3-point arc. KU outrebounded Millersville 46-35.
The game was close throughout
the first half, but Kutztown took a 32-27 lead into halftime.
KU led at the break despite only four points from Dennis,
the team's leading scorer, and none from
Dave Ben (jr.
Coatesville/Coatesville), the
second-leading scorer. Instead, it was a balanced scoring
attack for KU, as eight different players scored points in the
first frame.
KU scored the first six points
of the second half for a double-digit lead. Millersville
climbed back to within seven, 47-40 with 12:12 to play, but Millersville
came no closer.
The Golden Bears went on a 9-2 run,
including three buckets by Coombs, to take a commanding
14-point edge and pull away from there.
Ben, despite being limited to
seven points, added seven rebounds, five assists and three
blocks.
KU won for the sixth
straight time against Millersville and is off to its best start
in PSAC East play since beginning the 2002-03 division slate
4-0.
KU can match that start
in its next game on Saturday at Bloomsburg.
