BOXSCORE
PHILADELPHIA —
Stephen Dennis (so. West Chester/Henderson) scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 16
rebounds to lead Kutztown University to an 81-75 win over
Philadelphia University in non-conference men's basketball action
Wednesday night.
The game
was the first between the teams since the 1997-98 season, and was
KU's first win over the perennially tough Rams since 1985.
Dennis
was one of four Golden Bears to reach double figures. Dave
Ben (jr. Coatesville/Coatesville) scored 16 points, while Andre Woodlin
(Philadelphia/Central) added
14 and Jeremy Coombs (so. Philadelphia/Northeast Catholic) chipped in 11.
Mike Dunn
topped four Rams in double digits in the scoring column with 19.
Jason Hickenbottom scored 17, Marcus Lemon added 15 and Malcolm
Ingram netted 11. Russell Frederick dished out 11 assists.
Kutztown,
which never trailed in the game, led by as many as 17 in the first
half before taking a 33-25 lead into halftime. The Golden
Bears maintained the lead into the second half, before the Rams went
on an 11-3 run to get within 57-55 with 6:44 to play. A
3-pointer
by Ben and a layup by Woodlin extended the lead to
seven and KU never let Philadelphia get closer than four the rest of the
way.
Kutztown
will travel to California (Pa.) for a PSAC crossover on Sunday.
