Golden Bears go unbeaten at
Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. —
The Kutztown University wrestling team tied Delaware Valley and
defeated Elizabethtown on
Wednesday afternoon at Elizabethtown, with four wrestlers sweeping
on the day.
KU
(3-1-1) opened the day with a 19-19 tie with Delaware Valley, before
beating host Elizabethtown 26-15.
Joe Kemmerer (sr. Mountain Top/Crestwood),
John Paukovits (so. Northampton/Northampton),
Chris Chambers (sr. Holland/Council Rock South),
and Dave
Zeek (jr. Newtown/Council Rock North) were all 2-0 on the
day.
Kemmerer, at 133 pounds, got his first two pins of the season to
remain unbeaten. Kemmerer pinned Delaware Valley's Chris Sheetz in
6:17 and Marty Harnish, of Elizabethtown, in 2:03.
Paukovits managed a major decision at 141 pounds, topping Delaware
Valley's Brandon Clemmer 11-0. Paukovits notched a 4-1 decision over
Eric Rhoads, of Elizabethtown.
At 157
pounds, Chambers recorded a 5-3 decision to extend the Golden Bear
lead to 13-6 against Zach Marlatt, of Delaware Valley.
In the win over Elizabethtown, Mike Lussier dropped a 8-1 decision
to Chambers.
Zeek
defeated Cody Reeves (Delaware Valley) in a 5-1 decision and shut
out Paul Connor (Elizabethtown) 5-0.
The
Golden Bears got a winning decision from
Sonny
Flood (fr. Southampton/William Tennent) by a score of 3-0 in
their tie with Delaware Valley to complete their scoring.
After Kemmerer's pin against
Elizabethtown, KU took a 6-3 lead and
did not look back from that point on. Paukovits extended the lead to
9-3 with his decision and a 22-7 techincal fall in 7 minutes by
Bret
Martinez (jr. Slatington/Northern Lehigh) made the lead
14-3.
Following the winning decisions by
Chambers and Zeek, 184 pounder
Bobby
Mort (fr. Huntingdon/Huntingdon) pinned his opponent in 16
seconds to complete the scoring for the Golden Bears.
The KU wrestling team will return to
action on Dec. 6 at Mercyhurst for the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference Championships.
