Kemmerer, Paukovits lead KU at Messiah Duals Saturday

RESULTS: KU 21, Seton Hill 18  |  KU 23, Messiah 12  | Lycoming 30, KU 17

GRANTHAM, Pa — The Kutztown University wrestling team picked up two wins Saturday at the Messiah Duals with its lower weights leading the way in the victories. The Golden Bears also suffered a 30-17 setback against Lycoming College.

KU (2-1) opened the duals with a 21-18 win over Seton Hill and a 23-12 win over Messiah.

Joe Kemmerer (sr. Mountain Top/Crestwood) and John Paukovits (so. Northampton/Northampton) went 3-0 on the day for the Golden Bears.

Brett Martinez (jr. Slatington/Northern Lehigh), Chris Chambers (sr. Holland/Council Rock South), Sonny Flood (sr. Southampton/William Tennent) and Cory Rutt (fr. Easton/Easton) finished 2-1.

Kemmerer, at 133 pounds, had two major decisions and a technical fall. He did not allow a point to be scored against him, winning 9-0 over Seton Hill’s Nick Nichols and 12-0 over Messiah’s Ty Kanouff. He won 15-0 in a technical fall against Lycoming's Eric Grecco.

Paukovits also managed a major decision at 141 pounds, winning 11-0 against Messiah’s Alex DeHart. In the Seton Hill win, Paukovits recorded a technical fall against Dallas Evans, winning 18-2 in 5:19. He also pinned Lycoming's Miguel Arroyo in 4:40.

Chris Chambers, at 149 pounds, decisioned Seton Hill’s Aaron Pascazi 6-0. He also picked up a 4-3 decision over Messiah’s Craig Gin.

Martinez major decisioned Seton Hill’s Kurt McCamley 9-0 and won 9-7 over Messiah’s Steve Willingham.

Flood's two wins were by decisions, 4-0 over Seton Hill’s Lewis Spadaro and 4-2 against Messiah’s Arthur Milner at 165 pounds.

Cory Rutt (fr. Easton/Easton), at heavyweight, won 3-1 over Zane Bachert, of Messiah, and 2-1 over Richard Ausem, of Lycoming.

Clayton Youtz (fr. Dauphin/Central Dauphin), at 125, Bobby Mort (fr. Huntingdon/Huntingdon), at 184, also picked up wins for KU. Mort decisioned Messiah's Matt McHugh 8-1, and Youtz won 7-3 over Lycoming's Stephen Hinton.
