KUTZTOWN, Pa — A pin, three decisions and two wins by forfeit helped the Kutztown University wrestling team defeat Shippensburg 27-13 Tuesday.

The win gives KU 10 victories on the season, the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Golden Bears have recorded 10 or more wins under coach Robert Fisher. He has recorded a winning record all nine seasons at KU, the longest stretch of any KU wrestling coach. He also has 91 coaching wins, second in program history behind Dan Hinkel, who has 124.

John Paukovits (so. Northampton/Northampton) pinned Tom Wiechelt in 4:09 at 141 pounds to give KU a 12-4 lead, and Chris Chambers (sr. Holland/Council Rock South) and David Zeek (jr. Newtown/Council Rock North) recorded back-to-back decisions to make it 18-7.

Chambers decisioned David Sunderland at 157, winning 5-4 in overtime.

Zeek also had a close battle at 165, winning 4-2 over Jake Wilson.

Back-to-back decisions won by Shippensburg at 174 and 184 cut KU’s lead to 18-13, but a decision by Scott Snyder (jr. Slatington/Northern Lehigh) at 197 sealed the win as KU picked up a forfeit win at heavyweight.

Snyder had to go to overtime, winning 3-1 over Taylor Knight.

Bobby Mort (fr. Huntingdon/Huntingdon), at 184, also had to go into overtime in his bout against Jon Hade to decide a winner. After trailing 7-1, Mort climbed back into the bout and tied it at 7-7. In the third overtime, Hade scored the game-winning move with 14 seconds left.

The Golden Bears will rest up and prepare for the NCAA East Regionals at Mercyhurst on Feb. 27-28.
