KUTZTOWN,
PA (January 9, 2010) - Wrestling in its first contest on
home turf in the 2009-10 season, the Kutztown University
wrestling team rolled past Muhlenberg College 45-7 on Saturday
afternoon at Keystone Arena.
In the most exciting match of the
day, Anthony Frost (West Reading/Wyomissing) squeezed out
a 4-3 win at 149 pounds with an impressive third period.
Frost scored all of his points in
the final frame with an escape, a take down and finally earning
his winning point off of riding time as time expired. With
19-seconds remaining in the match, Frost rode out Michael Slevin
to give him exactly one minute for the difference maker.
Freshman Derek Schmelyun (New
Oxford/Bermudian Springs), sophomore Joe Yavoich
(Jonestown/Northern Lehigh) and senior Kevin Bolinsky
(Ashland/North Schuylkill) each had pins in the first
period.
Schmelyun and Yavoich had
back-to-back pins, with Schmelyun (157 pounds) pinning Keith
Swanson at 1 minute, 53 seconds in the first period. Not to be
outdone, Yavoich won by fall 53 seconds into the match at 164
pounds.
Bolinsky, in only his second
match of the season, pinned Nick Pallotta in 1 minute, 33 seconds
to finish off the contest.
The Golden Bears were spotted 24
points in the contest with Clayton Youtz (Dauphin/Central
Dauphin), Austin Williams (Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl),
Tyler Stambaugh (East Berlin/Bermudian Springs) and Scott
Snyder (Slatington/Northern Lehigh) each receiving forfeits.
The Golden Bears will return to
action on Saturday January 16th at the West Liberty State Duals
starting at 1 p.m.
