Sheetz leads Golden Bears at PSAC Championships
EDINBORO, PA (December 5, 2009) - Chris Sheetz (Barto/Upper
Perkiomen) placed third at
the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship to help the
Kutztown wrestling team to a seventh place finish.

After receiving a
bye in the first round, Sheetz pinned East Strousburg's Dave Luthy
in one minute and 39 seconds to advance to the quarterfinal. Sheetz
was dealt a loss to No. 1 seed Eric Morrill who went on to take the
125-pound weight class.
In the consolation
bracket, Sheetz won a 5-3 decision to advance before dropping Nick
Hyatt of Lock Haven in a 7-5 decision to earn his third place
finish.
Austin Williams
(Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl) and David Zeek (Newtown Council Rock
North) took different routes to earn fourth place finishes.
At 133-pounds,
Williams started off with a pin over Andrew Arnold in the second
round before being sent to the consolation bracket with a loss in
the quarterfinal. He followed that up a 9-6 decision before falling
to John Trumbetti in a fight for third place.
Zeek bounced back
from a loss in his first bout to John Shields with a 9-6 decision
then won by a medical forfeit. The 165-pound senior fell again to
Shields, the reigning NCAA Division II Champion, to finish fourth.
In 2007, Zeek also had a fourth place showing at the PSAC
Championship.
Senior Scott
Snyder (Slatington/Northern Lehigh) earned a fifth place
finish for the second time in three years at the PSAC Championship.
The 197 pounder found himself in close decisions all day. Snyder
started out with a 3-2 win in the second round before falling 6-1 in
the quarterfinal. In the consolation, Snder dropped a 2-0 decision
to set up a 2-1 win over Eddie Ebewo for fifth place.
The Golden Bears
collectively earned 48 points to finish in seventh place, an
improvement on last season's eighth place effort. Edinboro
maintained its dominance of the PSAC with a first place finish and
four individual first place finishes. Bloomsburg followed in second
place, with three wrestlers winning their weight class. Clarion,
Lock Haven and Gannon finished third through fifth, respectively
The Golden Bears
will have off for over a month before returning to action on
Wednesday January 6 in a dual meet at the University of
Pittsburgh-Johnstown.
