GOLDEN BEARS NAME 2004-05 TEAM MVPs

KUTZTOWN, PA – The Kutztown University coaches have announced 2004-2005 team Most Valuable Players.

Marc Benson (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) has been honored as the men's soccer team MVP.  Benson was named to the All-PSAC first team. He led the team in points with 17 and scoring with six goals. He also had five assists.

Sarah Brandon (so. Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) has been selected the MVP of the women's volleyball team.  Brandon was named the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year and the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region squad. Brandon set season record with 477 kills (4.38/game). She also set a game record with 27 kills. Brandon contributed with 230 digs and 95 blocks.

Jeannine Bria (jr. Warminster/William Tennent) has been chosen the women's soccer MVP.  Bria started 20-21 games played. She was a key player in the 14 win season, tied for the most wins in a season (2003, 2004). Bria was named to second team All-PSAC East.

Stacy Bricker (sr. Kutztown/Kutztown) was named MVP of the softball team despite playing in only 30 games due to injury. She was named to second team All-PSAC. Bricker had a batting average of .398 with 30 RBIs. She also had an on base percent of .449.

Brad Borek (sr. Southampton/William Tennent) has received MVP honors for the men's swimming team.  Borek set a new record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.04. He also had PSAC qualifying times in the 50 free, 100 and 200 breaststroke.

James Brooks (so. Lancaster/McCaskey) is the MVP of the football team.  Brooks played in ten games and averaged 52 yards a game with 38 receptions. He had two passes caught for touchdowns. Brooks also had 16 kick returns for an average of 24 yards. He was named to the second team All-PSAC.

            Tony Hegedus (so. Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh) is the MVP of the men’s indoor and outdoor track & field team.  Hegedus helped the indoor men’s 4x400 relay place first at the PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. He earned All-PSAC in the 400m. Hegedus also earned All-PSAC in outdoor in the 400m hurdles and 4x400 relay.

Laura Kline (jr. Reading/Reading) was named MVP of the women’s indoor and outdoor track & field team.  Kline was the PSAC Champion in 400m hurdles and part of the 4x400m relay. She also helped lead the team to first place in the PSAC for the outdoor season.

Kerstin Kloeffer (jr. Ludwigshafen, GERMANY) has been named the MVP of the women's tennis team.  She had 11 wins playing at first singles and has 15 wins at first doubles. Kloeffer was named All-Conference, PSAC East Athlete of the Year and KU Female Athlete of the Year.

Clay Kuklick (sr. North Wales/North Penn) has been named MVP of the baseball team. Kuklick, a catcher, batted .311 with 25 RBIs and 47 hits which included five doubles and three home runs. He was named PSAC tournament MVP and was named to the second All-PSAC East squad.

Molly Lare (so. Bethlehem/Liberty) has been given the MVP honors for the women's cross country team.  Lare led the Golden Bears as they advanced to the NCAA Championships. She earned All-PSAC and All-East Region honors for 2004.

Erin Livingston (sr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll) is the MVP of the field hockey team.  Livingston earned first team honors to the 2004 STX/NFHCA Division II All-America squads. She also holds Kutztown’s record for defensive saves with 23 in her career.

Brooke Martin (sr. Lock Haven/Central Mountain) has been named the women's basketball MVP. Martin was a starter in all 27 games. She helped lead the team to its 10th straight post-season appearance as the lone senior. Martin shot 65% from the free throw line and averaged six points per game.

Bilal Salaam (sr. Wilmington, DE, Howard) has been named MVP of the men's basketball team. Salaam was selected as the PSAC East Athlete of the Year and was named to the All-PSAC East first team. He had been named to the All-PSAC East second team the previous three years. Salaam is the all time leader for Kutztown in blocks with 408 in his career and rebounds with 980. Salaam led the team last year in blocks (106) and rebounds (270).

            Harsh Sharma (so. Calcutta, INDIA) is the MVP of the men's tennis team.  Sharma was 13-3 splitting time between first and second singles. He was also 18-1 playing first in doubles. Sharma was named to first team All-PSAC honors.

            Holly Shubilla (so. Wilkes-Barre/GAR Memorial) is the MVP for the women's golf team.  Shubilla set 18- and 36-hole record for a par-73 course at the Mercyhurst Invitational. She shot 80-82-162. Shubilla had the second lowest season average in KU history at 86.8 strokes.

Ashley Singer (fr. Lititz/Warwick) has been chosen the MVP of the women's swimming team.  Singer broke three individual records for KU, the 200 and 500 freestyle and the 200 butterfly. She was also part of the 800 free relay team that broke the record. Singer had qualifying times for the PSAC in seven events.

            Ryan Wasser (jr. Northampton/Northampton) has been named MVP of the wrestling team. Wasser made it to the NCAA Division II Championships with a top-four performance at the East Regional. He was 26-14 overall last season at 174.
