HANDS OUT SENIOR AWARDS
KUTZTOWN, PA –
The Kutztown University athletic department handed out its senior
awards at its first-ever senior athlete banquet Tuesday evening,
April 26.
The
Golden Bears presented the male and female senior athlete of the
year awards, as well as the male and female senior scholar athlete
awards, at the banquet which honored the seniors on all of
Kutztown’s intercollegiate varsity sports.
Bilal Salaam (sr. Wilmington, DE/Howard) of the men’s basketball
team and Lauren Tatro (sr. Somerville, NJ/Somerville) of
women’s soccer were named the senior athletes of the year, based on
their four-year athletic accomplishments. Greg Fulkerson (sr.
Towanda/Towanda), a member of the men’s swim team, and Erin
Livingston (sr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll), a two-sport
athlete in field hockey and softball, received awards as KU’s top
senior scholar-athletes based on a combination of their four-year
accomplishments both athletically and academically.

Salaam, a four-time All- Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
(PSAC) East selection, was named the PSAC East Player of the Year in
2005, when he set career highs in scoring, rebounding and field goal
percentage. Salaam set both the KU and PSAC career shot blocking
record and finished third all-time in Division II with 408 blocks.
He also established a school record for career rebounds with 980 and
is sixth all-time with 1,342 points. His 313 made free throws rank
second all time at KU and his 11 blocks in a single game are a
school record. Salaam notched 35 career double-doubles and
Kutztown’s only two triple doubles.

Tatro finished her soccer career as KU’s all-time assist leader
with 30, 19 more than any other player in school history. The
midfielder, who led the team in scoring in each of her first two
seasons, scored 60 points, fourth at Kutztown. Tatro tied a school
record with three assists in a contest against Clarion in 2001. In
2002, she earned the Golden Bears’ first All-PSAC selection since
1995 and was a three-time all-conference selection. She was also
named to the All-Northeast Region squad in 2003 and was a two-time
PSAC Scholar-Athlete.

Fulkerson holds a 3.89 grade-point average, majoring in
elementary education/social studies. A team captain and four-year
letterwinner, he qualified to compete at the PSAC Championships in
each of his four seasons and contributed to the team’s third place
finish in 2004, the best in school history. The three-time PSAC
Scholar-Athlete, he has made the Dean’s List in each of his seven
semesters, including four semesters in which he posted a 4.0.
Fulkerson received the 2003-04 KU Coach’s Award for his dedication
to the swimming program and is a three-year member of
Student-Athlete Mentors.

Livingston has a 3.54 GPA in elementary education/mathematics.
She has been selected to the NFHCA All-Academic squad, a PSAC
Scholar-Athlete and a member of the Dean’s List three times each.
Livingston was a three-year starter for the field hockey team and is
KU’s career leader in defensive saves with 23. Her 12 defensive
saves in 2002 are a school record. She was twice named to the All-PSAC
first team, was named first team All-America in 2004 and was second
team All-America in 2003. As a senior, she was selected to play in
the North/South All-Star game. In softball, Livingston is a
four-year starter and was named to the 2003 Mid-Atlantic Region
all-tournament team. Her 38 career doubles are tied for third
all-time at Kutztown. Her senior softball season is still in
progress.
Kutztown will name the rest of its awards, including the rookies,
athletes and coaches of the year over the summer.
