KU ATHLETICS HANDS OUT SENIOR AWARDS

KUTZTOWN, PA – The Kutztown University athletic department handed out its senior awards at its first-ever senior athlete banquet Tuesday evening, April 26.

The Golden Bears presented the male and female senior athlete of the year awards, as well as the male and female senior scholar athlete awards, at the banquet which honored the seniors on all of Kutztown’s intercollegiate varsity sports.

Bilal Salaam (sr. Wilmington, DE/Howard) of the men’s basketball team and Lauren Tatro (sr. Somerville, NJ/Somerville) of women’s soccer were named the senior athletes of the year, based on their four-year athletic accomplishments.  Greg Fulkerson (sr. Towanda/Towanda), a member of the men’s swim team, and Erin Livingston (sr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll), a two-sport athlete in field hockey and softball, received awards as KU’s top senior scholar-athletes based on a combination of their four-year accomplishments both athletically and academically.

Salaam, a four-time All- Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East selection, was named the PSAC East Player of the Year in 2005, when he set career highs in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.  Salaam set both the KU and PSAC career shot blocking record and finished third all-time in Division II with 408 blocks.  He also established a school record for career rebounds with 980 and is sixth all-time with 1,342 points.  His 313 made free throws rank second all time at KU and his 11 blocks in a single game are a school record.  Salaam notched 35 career double-doubles and Kutztown’s only two triple doubles.
