More honors for a
trio of Golden Bears baseball players
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
—
Darin Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal) was
selected to the Daktronics All-America third team and
one of three Golden Bears selected to the All-Atlantic
Region teams for Daktronics and the National Collegiate
Baseball Writer's Association.
Gorski,
Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/ Blue Mountain)
and
Adam
Maini (jr. Macungie/ Emmaus) all earned first
team All-Atlantic honors by the NCBWA. Gorski was also
first team by Daktronics, while Kacelowicz and Maini
were second team selections.
Gorksi earned these
honors after finishing the 2009 season with an 8-2
record and a 2.17 ERA in 78 2/3 innings of work. Gorski's 100 strikeouts led both the Golden Bears and
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and was
tied for 10th in all of Division II baseball.
This was Gorski's
second-straight Daktronics regional first team selection
and first All-America selection. In 2009, he has also
been named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year and
selected to the All-PSAC East first team. Gorski was
second team selection to the NCBWA All-Atlantic Region
in 2008.
Kacelowicz earned his first Daktronics and NCBWA All-Atlantic Region
selection after batting .355 with three home runs, 39
runs scored and 29 RBIs. He added 15 doubles, 26 walks
and a team-best 14 stolen bases. The second baseman was
solid in the field with a .970 fielding percentage.
Maini, also a first-time All-Atlantic Region selection
by Daktronics and the NCBWA,
led the KU pitching staff with 1.56 ERA in 57 2/3
innings. He had a 7-2 record with one save and 51
strikeouts in 12 appearances, including eight starts.

KU men's tennis sweep PSAC postseason awards
KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The
Kutztown University men’s tennis team swept the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference postseason awards, announced Thursday.
Suresh Ramamurthi was
named the PSAC Coach of the Year, while
Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA)
was named the PSAC Athlete
of the Year and
Kaushik Das
(Assam, INDIA) was the PSAC Freshman of the Year.
Ramamurthi led the Golden Bears to its eighth
PSAC title in 10 seasons.
Labitsch, also named an All-PSAC singles player for the third
straight season, finished 17-6 at singles. He was 13-3 in dual
meets.
He, along with teammate
Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA), were selected as
All-PSAC doubles players, posting a record of 18-3 together. They
were 12-1 in dual meets and 5-0 in the conference. Labitsch has been
an All-PSAC doubles selection all four years at KU. It’s the second
doubles selection for Sharma.
Das was 6-7 in his first year with the Golden Bears, competing in
the first, second and third singles slots.
Santiago Baquerizo (sr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) and Das were
named All-PSAC singles players.
Baquerizo was 13-3 overall, with a 9-3
record in No. 1 singles.

Das
headlines Golden Bears on All-PSAC East team
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
Rohini Das
(jr.Calcutta, INDIA)
was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern
Division Player of the Year, and was one of three Golden Bears to be
named to the All-PSAC team.
Joining Das in the singles category is
Barbara Joerns (Ludwigshafen, GERMANY) and
Sabrina
Arnaud (jr. Pintendre, CANADA), with Das and Joerns being
selected in the doubles category.
Das receives the top honors after
posting an 18-5 record in singles, including a 10-3 record in the
No. 1 singles spot. She has been named to the All-PSAC East team in
each of her three seasons at KU and this is her first player of the
year honors.
Joerns earned her second-straight All-PSAC
East selection after finishing the season 12-6, including an 8-3
record from the No. 2 singles spot.
Also selected for the third-straight
season is Arnuad with a singles record of 14-4, primarily out of the
No. 3 spot.
The duo of Das and Joerns earned the
doubles award for the second-consecutive season after finishing 9-7
playing out of the No. 1 spot. This marks the third-straight doubles
selection for Das.

Daktronics crowns Denlinger the National Player of
the Year
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
—
Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) has
been nationally recognized by Daktronics as the softball
player of the year, becoming the first member of KU to
ever do so.
After breaking
the NCAA Division II all-time records for home runs (79)
and walks (159), she reached new heights with being
named the national player of the year. Denlinger
finished the season with a .424 batting average with 23
home runs, 64 RBIs and 71 runs scored.
Along with being
named player of the year, she was selected to the
Daktronics All-America first team for the second time in
three years.
In 2009, she was
named the player of the year in the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference Eastern Division and the Daktronics
All-Atlantic Region. She was also named to the first
team in the All-PSAC East, Daktronics All-Atlantic
Region, NFCA All-Atlantic Region and the NFCA
All-America first team.
Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection)
was a Daktronics All-America honorable mention.
Fitzgerald was an All-America first team selection in
2008. She finished the 2009 season with a .367 batting
average with 13 home runs and 45 RBIs. In 2009,
Fitzgerald was a Daktronics All-Atlantic first team
selection and All-PSAC East selection.

Healey and Das named to ESPN The Magazine academic
teams
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
—
Kelley
Healey (sr. Toms River/Toms River North) of the
Kutztown University field hockey team and
Rohini Das (jr.Calcutta, INDIA) of the women's
tennis team were named to the ESPN The Magazine
All-District II women's at-large teams.
Healey, a biology major with
a 3.93 GPA, was selected to the College Division first
team. Das, who had a 3.96 GPA as a business
administration major with a minor in finance, was
selected to the College Division second team.
Healey will be joined by
nine other first team selections on the Academic
All-America ballot with the winner being announced on
Thursday, June 11.
On the field, Healey helped
lead the KU field hockey team to the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference playoffs. She had nine goals and
12
assists in 2008. Those 30 points moved her into second
all-time on the KU scoring list with 161 points and she
owns the KU career-record for assists with 39.
Das helped the KU tennis
team to a second-place finish in the PSAC regular
season. She finished with an 18-5 record playing out of
the No. 1 singles spot. In doubles, she had a record of
12-9 playing primarily out of the No. 1 spot.
The District II College Division consists of all NCAA
Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA colleges, junior
colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of
Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West
Virginia. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be at
least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade-point
average and a starter or significant reserve on his or
her
team.

Thomas named to CoSIDA's Academic All-District At-Large
team
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
—
Scott Thomas (sr. Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain)
was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic
District II College Division second team selected by
CoSIDA.
Thomas, a physics major, has a GPA of 3.91. He made the
the dean's list in each of his semesters at KU and was a
2006-07 and 2007-08 PSAC Scholar Athlete.
In the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
Championships, Thomas led the Golden Bears with a
sixth-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of
1:56.44 and a 14th-place finish in the 400 IM (4:17.65).
At the PSAC meet, he finished 11th in the 200 back.
In 2007, he placed seventh in the 200 back at the PSAC
meet. Thomas ranked third in the 400 IM (4:17.65),
fourth in the 200 back (1:56.55) and 10th in the 500
free (4:50.77) on KU all-time list.
The District II College Division consists of all NCAA
Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA colleges, junior

Denlinger named to NFCA All-America first team
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
—
Another postseason honor has been awarded to
Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton)
as the
National Fastpitch Coaches Association selected her to
the All-America first team for the second time in her
career.
In 2009, Denlinger has earned numerous awards, which
included being named the player of the year in the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division
and the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region.
She was also named to the first team in the All-PSAC
East, Daktronics All-Atlantic Region and the NFCA
All-Atlantic Region.
Denlinger was named to the NFCA All-American first team
selection in 2007, as well.
Denlinger finished 2009 with a .424 batting average in
59 starts. She hit 23 home runs to break the NCAA
Division II all-time career home run record with 79. She
also broke the Division II career record for walks with
159.

Mehaffey
named to All-America All-Rookie team
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford,
N.J./West Deptford),
of the Kutztown University women’s lacrosse team, was named to the
All-America All-Rookie team by WomensLacrosse.com Tuesday.
Mehaffey was one of six Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
rookies named to the team.
In
her first year with the Golden Bears, Mehaffey led the team in
scoring with 41 goals and 11 assists. She tallied a career-best six
goals in a matchup against Edinboro on April 18.
Mehaffey’s 41 goals rank third on KU’s all-time scoring list for
women’s lacrosse. The program completed its second season of
competition at KU after an 18-year hiatus.
The
freshman standout, who also was a defensive starter for the KU
women’s soccer team, caused 35 turnovers and recorded 41
groundballs.
Mehaffey also was named to the All-PSAC East second team.
The
Golden Bears finished the season 2-14 overall and 0-10 in the PSAC
Eastern Division. The 2009 season marked the first year of PSAC East
competition for KU since its return as it competed as an independent
in 2008.

KU finishes in seventh place in Dixon Trophy standings
KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Kutztown
University finished in seventh place after the 2008-09
athletic season in the Dixon Trophy standings.

California finished in first place for the first
time in school history with 161 points, edging out second-place
Shippensburg by three points. Lock Haven and Slippery Rock tied for
third with 153 points, while Indiana (Pa.) was fifth with 151.5
points.
KU scored 147 points, 72.5 points on the men's side
and 74.5 points on the women's side.
The men's tennis team pulled in the most points
during the season with 16 after winning its eighth Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference title in 10 years.
In the winter, the men's basketball team earned 15
points for winning the PSAC East championship and finishing
as the PSAC runner-up.
Baseball, which placed second in the PSAC East,
collected 13 points.
The men's outdoor track and field team earned 10
points, while the indoor team got nine. Football rounded out the top
six point totals for the men with 9.5 points.
On the women's side, softball and cross country
pulled in the most points with 14 apiece. The softball team won 46
games and finished as the PSAC East champion for the third
consecutive season. Cross country finished third at the PSAC meet.
The women’s basketball team and indoor track and field team
both earned 11 points, while the women’s golf team earned 12
points. Women's tennis also pulled in 12 points for KU.
Field hockey earned 11.5 points.
The Dixon Trophy is awarded to the most successful
institution in the PSAC, based on its 12 best finishes, six
men, six men. Points are given based on the school’s finish
in PSAC postseason and regular-season play.
The award, in its 14th year, is named in honor of F. Eugene
Dixon, Jr., the former chairman of the Pennsylvania State
System of Higher Education’s Board of Governors.

Four
Golden Bears named to NFCA All-Region teams
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton)
led a trio of Kutztown University
softball players honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches
Association.
Denlinger, who is batting .436 with 22
homers in 2009, was named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA
Division II All-Region first team at first base.
Third baseman
Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart),
Ashley
Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) and pitcher
Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) were named to the second team.
Denlinger, who also was named the
Daktronics Atlantic Region and PSAC East Player of the Year, has a
team-best 63 RBIs and 70 runs scored. She hold the Division II
record for home runs with 78 and walks with 159.
Arbogast was named the PSAC East
Pitcher of the Year with her 20-5 record and 1.59 ERA. She owns
every KU career pitching record except ERA, which she is close to
breaking. She has 199 strikeouts this season and 748 in her career.
Fitzgerald batted
.373 with 13 home runs, 45 RBIs and a
12 doubles. Fitzgerald has extended her KU all-time doubles mark to
65 and moved into first in hits with 279. She trails only Denlinger
for KU all-time career home runs (48) and RBIs (209).
Cameron, an All-PSAC East first team
selection, is batting .376 with 15 doubles, five triples, 10 homers,
54 RBIs and 29 runs scored.
KU is competing in the NCAA Division
II Super Regionals three-game series with Lock Haven, beginning at
noon Friday. Game 2 is at noon Saturday and Game 3, if necessary,
will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Gorski, Houck win top honors in PSAC East
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
Darin Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal)
and
Shayne Houck (fr. Barto/Boyertown)
helped the Kutztown University baseball team garner two
of the four top postseason honors in the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference Eastern Division.
Gorski was named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year and
Houck was named the PSAC East Rookie of the Year
Wednesday.
Pitcher
Adam Maini (jr. Macungie/Emmaus) and
second baseman
Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain)
joined Gorski on the All-PSAC East first team.
Third baseman and designated hitter
James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) was
named to the second team.
Gorski, the left-handed hurler who hits low 90s with his
fastball, struck out a PSAC-best 91 batters this season,
including a season-high 15 in the PSAC quarterfinals. He
is the second pitcher from KU to have won the award
(Mike McCardell, 2006).
This is the second straight year Gorski has been tabbed
as a first team All-PSAC East pitcher.
He posted an ERA of 1.91 in 11 starts and 70 2/3 innings
of work. Gorski was 8-1 with three complete games,
including a shutout. He held opposing batters to an
average of .205.
Teammate and Lackawanna College transfer Maini boasted
the best ERA among starters with a 1.60. He is 6-2 in
seven starts and 11 appearances. He has struck out 44 in
50 2/3 innings.
Houck is ninth in the PSAC and first on KU in batting
average at .401. He has 61 hits in 152 at-bats,
including 12 doubles, a triple and seven homers. He’s
driven in 34 runs and scored 50. He also drew 25 walks
for a .503 on-base percentage.
He is the sixth KU player to have won the PSAC East
Rookie of the Year award. The last Golden Bear to win it
was current senior
Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown).
Kacelowicz is right behind Houck on the Golden Bears
with a .355 average. He led the team with 14 doubles and
14 stolen bases. He also walked 25 times for an on-base
percentage of .466. Kacelowicz had three homers, 28 RBIs
and 38 runs scored.
Quigley is batting .351 with eight doubles, four homers,
32 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
West Chester's Matt Cotellese won PSAC East Player of
the Year and West Chester coach Greg Mamula won PSAC
East Coach of the Year.
The Golden Bears will open up the NCAA Division II
Atlantic Regionals as the No. 2 seed on Thursday at Owls
Field at Ted Palka Park in West Lawn, Pa. KU will play
the No. 5 seed, West Virginia Wesleyan, at 7 p.m.

Denlinger
leads five Golden Bears named to Daktronics All-Region
teams
KUTZTOWN, Pa. —
Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton)
headlines the Kutztown University softball team in
the Daktronics All-Atlantic Regional postseason honors.
Denlinger was named the Atlantic
Region’s Player of the Year and selected to the first
team. She won the award in 2007 for the Mid-Atlantic
Region.
Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection), last season’s
player of the year, made the first team for a third
time.
The Golden Bears pitching duo of
Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) and
Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert) were
each second-team honorees. This is Arbogast’s third time
receiving all-regional honors and this Hoch’s first.
Joining the pitchers on the second
team is third baseman
Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart). She has been
selected to all-regional teams in each of the past three
seasons.
Denlinger receives the top-player
award after breaking the NCAA Division II all-time home
run (78) and walks (139) records. She also broke the
all-time career RBI record in the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference, with 233. On the season, she
has 22 home runs, 63 RBIs, .436 batting average, .549
on-base percentage and 36 walks, all of which lead the
Golden Bears offense.
Fitzgerald, named to the first team as
a catcher, has enjoyed a solid offensive season as well.
She owns a .373 batting average with 13 home runs, 45
RBIs and a 12 doubles. Fitzgerald has extended her KU
all-time doubles mark to 65 and moved into first in hits
with 279. She trails only Denlinger for KU all-time
career home runs (48) and RBIs (209).
Cameron is batting .376 with 10 home
runs, 54 RBIs and leads the team in doubles (15) and
triples (5). Cameron ranks second all-time at KU in
doubles with 60 and third all-time hits (221), home run
(41), RBIs (189).
Arbogast leads the KU pitching staff
with a 20-5 record, 1.59 ERA and struck out 199 batters.
She has 18 complete games, seven of which were shutouts,
in 189 2/3 innings. Arbogast extended her KU all-time
strikeouts lead to 748 and moves into first all-time for
saves with six. She now owns the KU career records for
games (117), wins (73), complete games (70), shutouts
(25) and innings pitched (652). She is currently tied
for second at KU in ERA at 1.62.
Hoch has been just as stellar as
Arbogast in the pitcher’s circle this season. She has a
1.64 ERA and a 17-3 record in 102 2/3 innings of work.
Hoch has six complete games, with two shutouts while
holding opponents to a .212 batting average.
Under Coach Judy
Lawes, 10 players have been selected to the
Daktronics All-Regional first and second teams, with
three player of the years.
The Golden Bears will travel to Lock
Haven for the NCAA Division II Super Regionals, which
will be a three-game series starting at noon Friday. For

KU baseball remains No. 2 in regional ranking
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University baseball remained ranked No. 2
in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll, released
on Wednesday.
The Golden Bears (32-14)were off all week, awaiting the
start of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
Championships.
West Chester (39-10) remains ahead of KU at the No. 1
spot. Shepherd moved up to No. 3 and Mercyhurst now is
No. 4. West Virginia State made a move from No. 7 to No.
5, followed by Concord who dropped three spots to No. 6.
California (Pa.) ranks seven, followed by Slippery Rock
at No. 8.
Rain delayed the start of the PSAC Championships, which
were due to start on Monday, pushing the Golden Bears
first round game with Slippery Rock back to Wednesday.

KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University baseball team remained at No.
2 in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Poll, released on Wednesday.
The Golden Bears (33-14), who
just defeated Slippery Rock in Game 3 of the Pennsylvania State
athletic Conference tournament Wednesday afternoon, are second
behind first-plate West Chester.
Shepherd moves up to No. 3 in
the poll, followed by Mercyhurst and West Virginia State.
Concord drops to sixth
and California is ranked seventh.
Slippery Rock cracked
the top eight, giving the PSAC five teams in the region
poll for the first time this seson.
KU will play the winner of the
Mansfield-Mercyhurst matchup at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The
game time is subject to change with rain forecast to move into
the region at around 8 p.m.

KU Softball drops to No. 11 in NFCA polls
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University softball team fell to No. 11
in the the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association
Division II poll.
KU, previously ranked No. 8, dropped after losing the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference semifinal contest
8-1 to Bloomsburg, which moved up to No. 9 in the
rankings. Another PSAC school represented
in the rankings is Lock Haven, which won the PSAC title and moved up
to No. 2, receiving one first-place vote. North Georgia moved up one
spot to take over the No. 1 position, receiving 10 first-place
votes.
The Golden Bears will host the NCAA Division II Atlantic
Regional starting on Friday. They will take on West
Chester at noon on North Campus Field, followed by
Bloomsburg and West Virginia Wesleyan.

Four KU players named LVAIAW award winners
KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The
Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women
(LVAIAW) chose four members of Kutztown University for the
2008-09 school year, as voted on by the participating schools.
The LVAIAW is made up of Cedar Crest,
DeSales, Kutztown, Lafayette, Lehigh, Moravian and Muhlenberg.
Each school is awarded an Outstanding Athlete by Institution,
with

Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) winning the KU
award in 2009.
The LVAIAW also gives out an award for
Outstanding Athlete by Sport, which selects an athlete from the
seven institutions. The player of the year award went to
Denlinger for softball,
Kelley Healey (sr. Toms River/Toms River North) won for
field hockey,
Steph Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty) for swimming and
Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West)
for cross country.
Denlinger was named the award winner
for softball after becoming the NCAA Division II all-time home
run leader, surpassing the past record of 63. Denlinger also
holds the Division II record for most walks in a career and has
broken the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s career
record for RBIs. In the 2009 season alone, she currently has 21
home runs, 59 RBIs and a .430 batting average.
Healey was the award winner for
field hockey with a senior season in which she scored nine
goals, including three game-winners, and had 12 assists. Her 39
career assists are a school-record and her 161 career points
finished one shy of the KU school record. Healey led the Golden
Bears to a 13-6 record and a trip to the PSAC playoffs.
The swimming award went to
Jeppesen after she finished in second place at the NCAA
Championships in 200-yard breaststroke and broke her own school
record with a time of 2:16.99. She also had a ninth-place finish
in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.94) and 12th in the 200 IM
(2:05.42), both of which are KU school records. Jeppesen, along
with the relay team of Nikki Hinsdale, Kerry
Choplin and Heather Wolkom, holds the
school record for the 800 relay with a time of 7:52.94.
Horstmann was named the cross
country award winner after placing 50th at the NCAA
Championships with a time of 23:02. She had four top-five
finishes throughout the season, including first place at the
Lafayette Invitational with her season-best time of 21:39.
Horstmann also had a fifth-place finish in the NCAA Regionals.
