Text Box: GENERAL
·         A team will consist of five (5) players.  A roster may consist of a maximum of 8 players.  
o       Rosters are frozen after the first week of the season.
·         All players must present a valid KU ID to the scorekeeper prior to the start of the game.  The scorekeeper will hold all ID’s until the game is completed. 
o       NO ID, NO PLAY, NO EXCEPTIONS
·         As a courtesy to the team playing, players will not be allowed on the gym floor until the preceding game on their court is finished.  No shooting around while a game is in progress!
·         Only rostered players are permitted in the “bench area.”  For players the bench area is the area where the bench is on the sideline, a coach must remain in the “coach’s box” which extends from the end of the bench to the start of the scorer’s table.  Spectators are not permitted to be on the sideline which the team’s bench is on.
o       Spectators:  All spectators are expected to adhere to the sportsmanship code.  If spectators violate the code, then the team they are supporting can be issued a technical foul.  Teams are responsible for controlling their fans.  
·         Intramurals will provide a game ball for each scheduled contest. If both teams agree to use a different ball, it may be used. Warm-up balls may be checked out with a valid ID from the Field House office.
FORFEIT
·         Teams are required to be on the court at game time, a five (5) minute grace period will be allowed.  
o       The scorekeeper will place 5-minutes on the clock and start the time.  
o       If a team does not have FIVE (5) rostered players at the end of this 5-minute grace period a victory will be awarded to the other team.  
o       If the 5-minute timer has been started, the first half will begin with 18 minutes on the clock (the second half will still be 20-minutes).  
·         If a team forfeits two (2) games, they will be dropped from league for the remainder of the season.  
ATTIRE 
·         Participants are REQUIRED to remove all jewelry prior to competing.
·         Hats are not permitted to be worn during the game.  Additionally headbands are acceptable; however bandanas worn in any fashion are not permitted.
·         Athletic shoes and athletic attire are required for participation. Unacceptable attire includes jeans, jean shorts, khaki pants/shorts, button-down shirts, hiking boots, and street shoes.
·         Items of clothing with profanity will not be tolerated and will result in the player(s) not being allowed to participate.
LENGTH OF GAME
·    A game will consist of two (2) 20 minutes halves.  
·     Halftime will be three (3) minutes long.
·      The game clock will only stop for timeouts (team and official) and injuries. 
·       During the last 2 minutes of the second half, the scorekeeper will stop the clock during each dead ball situation.  The clock WILL NOT stop for a made basket during the last two minutes.
·      Each team will be awarded two (2) timeouts per game.  One additional timeout is granted per overtime period.  
o       Unused time-outs will not be carried over to overtime
o       Each time-out will be a 30 second timeout.
·     In the event of a tie score at the end of regulation, a 3-minute overtime will be played.  The last two minutes of overtime will follow the same rules as the last two minutes of the second half.
·      A “mercy rule” will be employed when the point differential is great than 20 points with at least two (2) minutes left in the second half or if the differential reaches that margin at any point under two minutes.
MISC.
Coaches-All teams may have one coach, this coach must be listed on their roster and must be a current KU student or employee.
The captain is designated as the team’s spokesperson to the official.  They are the only player who should be speaking to the officials; all other players could receive a technical foul for verbal abuse towards an official.
A jump ball at half-court will start the game and each overtime period. All other jump ball situations will be awarded utilizing the alternating possession. 
Substitutions will be carried out during a dead ball.  Substitutes must kneel in front of the scorer’s table until they are signaled into the game by the official.
Dunking is permitted, however, hanging on the rim is prohibited and will be penalized with a technical foul.  Dunking in warm-up will result in a technical foul to be shot before the jump ball is administered.
Foul shots will be awarded to a player who is fouled in the act of shooting.  All other common fouls committed will result in a throw in from the side/baseline nearest to where the foul occurred. 
Exception: In the event that a team has committed seven (7) team fouls in one half a 1-and-1 will be shot on every foul after the seventh.  There will be no double bonus.  
A flagrant or intentional foul will always result in a two shot foul and possession of the basketball.
In the event of foul shots, both teams will be required to promptly assume their position in the foul lane.  Any attempt to stall the free throw can result in a technical foul.
 
CONDUCT
All teams are expected to treat their opponents, the officials, Recreational Services employees and spectators with the highest level of respect.  Unsportsmanlike behavior WILL NOT BE TOLERATED and can result in an ejection or suspension. 
Unsportsmanlike conduct includes: taunting, profanity, obscene gestures, and abusive or obscene language and/or actions.  All of these may result in a technical foul or ejection from the game.
Any forms of deliberate violent contact (including striking with the elbow, kicking, kneeing, etc.) will result in immediate ejection of the player from the game and a minimum one game suspension. 
Fighting of any kind will result in expulsion from the league and possible one-year suspension from participating in any Intramural event.
Any player ejected from a game by an official or supervisor must leave the building immediately and will be suspended from the league for a minimum of one (1) game.  
Four technical fouls on the same team in the same game will result in the game being ended.
REMEMBER:  Altercations occurring during an intramural competition will be referred to the Student Conduct Standards Office and are subject to sanctions according to Kutztown University policies.
 PROTESTS
·         All protests must be made in writing to the Intramural Coordinator within 24-hours of the incident in question.  
The protest will be reviewed by a five member Intramural Protest Committee (IPC) which will be chaired by the Intramural Graduate Assistant.  The IPC will rule on the case within two (2) business days.
After the IPC’s decision a participant can appeal their verdict to the Intramural Appeal Board which will be a three member board chaired by the Intramural Coordinator.
Any participant having a complaint regarding an Intramural official or staff member should be made in writing to the Intramural Coordinator, as soon as possible.
