Shaun Landis and Molly Shank, of the men’s and women’s track & field teams, respectively, are the final KU Student Bookstore Athletes of the Week. The duo share the award after leading their respective teams to the 2000 Pennsyvlania State Athletic Conference Championships over the weekend. Landis placed in three events – winning the high jump (6-8 3/4), placing second in the triple jump (47-3 1/4) and third in the javelin (194-0). Shank was a double PSAC Champion, taking the shot put (44-8) and the discus (140-4).

Past KU Student Bookstore Athletes of the Week

9/7    Angie Rideout - Volleyball - Led the Golden Bear volleyball team to a 2-2 week, including a third-place finish at the Shepherd College Invitational. Rideout had 55 kills and 18 blocks in 15 games. She tied a school record with 23 kills in Sunday’s win over West Liberty State.

9/13    Jon Murphy - Football - A defensive end, Murphy led the Golden Bears to a 37-7 win over Lock Haven on Saturday. He had nine tackles, including six solos and three sacks for 21 yards. Two of his three sacks halted Bald Eagle drives in KU territory. He also forced a fumble that led to a Kutztown touchdown.

9/20    Joy Wallace - W. Soccer - Wallace led the Golden Bears to a 2-0 week, including an impressive victory over PSAC foe Millersville. Wallace recorded 17 saves in the 2-0 shutout over the Marauders. Wallace also teamed with Suzanne Kochey to record a shutout victory over Caldwell on Saturday.

9/27    Megan Seefeldt - Cross Country - Megan Seefeldt, of the women’s cross country team, has been named the KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Seefeldt led the Golden Bears to a second-place team finish at the Mount St. Mary’s Invitational. Seefeldt won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:19.80.

10/4    John Ruggiero & Brian Zansitis - Men’s Tennis - John Ruggiero and Brian Zansitis are this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athletes of the Week. The tandem stormed through the A-Doubles flight at the ITA Regionals at Bloomsburg University, advancing all the way to Monday’s final match. The winner of the match will receive a berth in the national doubles championship later this year.

10/11    Kerri Schaeffer - Field Hockey - Kerri Schaeffer, of the field hockey team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Schaeffer was a key part in KU’s 2-0 week, including an upset win over Lock Haven on Thursday and a shutout over Merchyhurst on Saturday. Schaeffer recorded 13 saves in the 2-1 win over LHU, giving up just the one goal on a penalty stroke. She had six saves in the 1-0 win over Mercyhurst.

10/18    Yorel Prosser - Football - Yorel Prosser, of the football team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Prosser was a key part in Kutztown’s 51-14 win over Mansfield on Saturday. Prosser tallied 164 yards on just 17 carries (9.6 yards/carry). He scored touchdowns on runs of two and 69 yards.

10/25    Pete Mendez – Football - Pete Mendez, of the football team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Mendez was a driving force in KU’s 24-10 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. He tallied seven tackles (six solos), including two sacks for eight yards. He also had a pass breakup and an interception that set up a Golden Bear touchdown.

11/1    Megan Seefeldt – Cross Country - Megan Seefeldt, of the women’s cross country team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Seefeldt led the Golden Bears to the sixth place finish at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship. Seefeldt placed second with a time of 22:31. Her finish was the highest for any Golden Bear since 1986.

11/8    Megan Seefeldt – Cross Country - Megan Seefeldt, of the women’s cross country team, is a repeat selection as the KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Seefeldt continued her super sophomore season with a second-place finish at the NCAA East Regionals. She traversed the 6K course in a time of 22:09. Her finish equals the highest-ever placing for a KU cross country runner at regionals, and gives her a berth at the National Championships on Nov. 20.

11/15    Terry Robertson – Football - Terry Robertson, of the football team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. A junior wide receiver, Robertson set a school record for receiving yards with 206 in Kutztown’s loss to West Chester. He hauled down 14 catches, including a pair of touchdowns. He also returned two kickoffs for 46 yards for a season-high 252 all-purpose yards.

11/22    Megan Seefeldt – W. Cross Country - Megan Seefeldt, of the women’s cross country team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Seefeldt earned All-America status with a 20th (21:46.2) place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships at Missouri Southern State. Only the top 25 performers, out of 132 total runners, earn All-America honors. Seefeldt has been named KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week three of the past four weeks.

11/29  Sam Holloway – Wrestling - Sam Holloway, of the wrestling team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Holloway won the 285 lb. title to lead KU to a fifth-place finish at the 1999 Kutztown University Invitational. He tallied a 3-0 record for the invitational, winning all three by decision. Holloway defeated Boston College’s Pat Purcell in the finals for the title.

12/6   Mike Weimert – Men’s Swimming - Mike Weimert, of the men’s swimming team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Weimert won four individual events and was a member of three first-place finishing relay teams to lead KU to the win at the Another Level Invitational. He won in the 100 (54.17) and 200 (2:00.63) fly, 500 free (4:59.27), and 1650 free (17:30.39). He was also a member of the winning 200 and 400 medley relay squads and the 400 free relay team.

12/13    Dan Tashner – Wrestling - Dan Tashner, of the wrestling team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Tashner was a key factor in Kutztown’s upset win of Millersville on Wednesday. Tashner notched a 14-1 major decision over previously unbeaten Marauder Josh Miller. Tashner is 2-0 this year.

1/3    Brianne Homyak – Women’s Basketball - Brianne Homyak, of the women’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Homyak scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead KU to a 69-62 win over Shepherd on December 29.

1/10   Keri Suydam – Women’s Basketball - Keri Suydam, of the women’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Suydam led the Golden Bears to a 2-0 week, including wins over Shippensburg and Alvernia. Suydam sank game-winning free throws against Shippensburg, and hit a jumper late in the game against Alvernia to seal KU’s victory. For the week, Suydam scored 45 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and hit 17-of-30 field goals (56.6%).

1/18  Brianne Homyak – Women’s Basketball - Brianne Homyak, of the women’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Homyak, who earned the honor two weeks ago, led the Golden Bears to a 2-0 record, including wins over Millersville and West Chester. She averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. Homyak sank 70.8% of her field goal attempts (17-24).

1/24   Paul Schmitt – M. Track & Field - Paul Schmitt, of the men’s track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Schmitt set the school’s record in the pole vault twice last weekend. He first set the mark on Friday, breaking a 12-year old record in helping KU to victory at the Dolfin Invitational. He then vaulted 16-5 at the Princeton Relays on Sunday. He won both competitions.

1/31    Emily Foltz – W. ID Track & Field - Emily Foltz, of the women’s indoor track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Foltz shattered KU’s indoor pentathlon record with 3,223 points, winning the Bucknell Pentathlon The old mark of 3,080 points was set by Andrea Bernard in 1997. Foltz turned in the following marks: 55 hurdles (8.75), high jump (5-0 1/2), shot put (28-1), long jump (16-1 1/2) and 800-meter run (2:26.51)

2/7    John Frownfelter – M. ID Track & Field - John Frownfelter, of the men’s indoor track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Frownfelter turned in a strong performance at the Delaware Invitational on Saturday, winning the 35-lb. weight throw with a toss of 63-7 3/4. The mark set a new school record, bettering his own record set at the Division II Championships last year. It was also an NCAA automatic qualifying distance for this year’s championships.

2/14    Kevin Handy – Men’s Basketball - Kevin Handy, of the men’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Handy scored 26 points and grabbed 14 points during a 1-1 week for the Golden Bears. He scored 11 points against Bloomsburg, including a pair of free throws with :02 left that gave KU an 85-84 upset win over the Huskies. He also scored 15 points in a three-point loss to West Chester.

2/21    Liz Powell – W Swimming/Bill Rinnier – M Swimming - Bill Rinnier and Liz Powell, of the Men’s and Women’s Swimming teams, respectively, have been named this week’s KU Student Bookstore Co-Athletes of the week. Rinnier led the Golden Bear men to a fourth-place finish at the PSAC Championships, while Powell led the women to a sixth-place showing. Rinnier set the school record in the 200 back (1:57.00) for the fifth time this season. Powell, in addition to placing in seven events, qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 50 free (24.46).

2/28    Dan Tashner – Wrestling - Dan Tashner, of the Golden Bear Wrestling team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Tashner won the 141 lb. bracket at the NCAA East Regional Championships on Saturday, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. He pinned Larry Manno of Gannon in the semifinals and recorded a 14-4 major decision over American International’s Rafael Calixto in the finals. Tashner is KU’s first regional champion since 1995.

3/6    Keith Crowell – M ID Track & Field - Keith Crowell, of the men’s indoor track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Crowell led the Golden Bears to their fourth-straight ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend. He set two individual school records and was part of the record-setting 4x200-meter relay in being named the most valuable track athlete at the meet. Crowell set records in the 55-meter dash (2nd, 6.32), and the 200-meter dash (1st, 21.78).

3/13    Paul Schmitt – M ID Track & Field - Paul Schmitt, of the men’s indoor track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Schmitt turned in the top performance of the winter sports athletes at nationals over the weekend. He tied for second place in the pole vault with a height of 16-4 3/4. It was his first All-America performance.

3/20    Kellie Evans – Softball - Kellie Evans, of the softball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Evans hurled two complete-game shutouts last week for the Golden Bears. On Wednesday, she scattered six hits in defeating Lock Haven. On Saturday, she threw a two-hitter in a 6-0 win over Minnesota State. She had seven strikeouts in the two games.

3/27    Paul Schmitt – M Track & Field - Paul Schmitt, of the men’s outdoor track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Schmitt wins the honor for the third time this year, the first during the outdoor season. Schmitt broke the outdoor school record in the pole vault in winning the event at the East Carolina Pirate Relays. His mark of 16-4, which was an NCAA provisional height, is one inch higher than previous record holder Doug Schupner’s 1996 record.

4/3    Dan Newton – Baseball - Dan Newton, of the Golden Bear baseball team, is the KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Newton led the Golden Bears to a 3-1 week, including a doubleheader sweep of Bloomsburg. Newton was 4-for-6 with five RBI in the two games, including a key two-run homer in the come-from-behind win in the nightcap. He was also the winning pitcher of that game, having come in to end a bases-loaded Huskie rally in the sixth inning. For the week, Newton was 5-for-10 (.500), with four runs, three doubles and seven RBI.

4/10   Tara White – Softball - Tara White, of the Golden Bear Softball team, is the KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. In a 5-1 week for KU, White, a sophomore pitcher, was 3-0 with a 1.67 earned-run average in three complete-game victories. She tallied 17 strikeouts in the three games. White struck out seven batters in KU’s win over West Chester.

4/17    Mike Rohrbach – Men’s Tennis - Mike Rohrbach, of the men’s tennis team, is the KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Rohrbach went undefeated in a 4-0 week for the Golden Bears. Rohrbach was 3-0 in singles action, and 4-0 in doubles matches. He was a key factor in KU’s 5-4 win over regionally-ranked Concordia (NY), winning both of his matches.

4/24    Kellie Evans – Softball - Kellie Evans, of the softball team, is the KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Evans led the Golden Bears to a 4-0 week, including a crucial doubleheader sweep of Shippensburg on Thursday. Evans was the winning pitcher of game two, allowing just four hits and one earned run. She was 3-4 and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Evans also picked up a pitching victory over East Stroudsburg, allowing four hits and one earned run. She was 2-for-4 at the plate in that game.

5/1   Mike Rohrbach – Men’s Tennis - Mike Rohrbach, of the men’s tennis team, is one of this week’s KU Student Bookstore Co-Athletes of the Week. Rohrbach was a dual PSAC Champion, leading the Golden Bears to their first-ever PSAC team championship over the weekend. Rohrbach was the PSAC fifth singles champ, and teamed with Justin Poletti to win the third doubles title. During the tournament, Rohrbach also became the all-time winningest player in KU tennis history, recording his 139th combined singles and doubles victory. Rohrbach was named the tournament Most Valuable Player.

            &     Paul Schmitt – Men’s Track & Field - Paul Schmitt, of the men’s track & field team, is the other KU student Bookstore Co-Athlete of the Week. Schmitt started the week by winning the College Division Pole Vault at the prestigious Penn Relays, bettering Division I vaulters with a height of 16-2 1/4. On Saturday, Schmitt shattered his school record in the event by seven inches, vaulting 17-0 to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships and lead KU to the team title at the Millersville Metrics.

5/8    Kristi Braine – W Track & Field - Kristi Braine, of the women’s track & field team, is the KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Braine led the Golden women’s team to a sweep of PSAC foes West Chester and East Stroudsburg on Friday. Braine broke her own school record in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional height of 11-10, and ran the second leg of KU’s victorious 4x400-meter relay team.
