Justin Collins, of the men’s
outdoor track & field team, is the final KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the
Week for the 2003-04 school year. Collins earned All-America honors in the
long jump, placing third at the NCAA Division II Championships. His distance of
24-10 was just 1 1/4 inches shorter than the first place mark. Collins also
placed 14th in the triple jump.

9/2 Chrissy
Jack, of the women’s soccer team, is
this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athletic of the Week. Jack helped the Golden
Bears open the 2003 season in style, scoring three goals and dishing out an
assist in KU’s two victories in the T.G.I. Friday’s/Pizzeria Uno Classic.
Jack had a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over Molloy, then scored two goals
in the 3-0 shutout over Shepherd.

Molly Lare,
of the women’s cross country team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore
Athlete of the Week. Lare began her collegiate career in style, winning the
Lehigh Valley Championship with a time of 22:54 on the 6K course.
9/15 Tim
Krusen, of the football team, is this
week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Krusen had nine tackles,
including five for loss of 19 yards and two sacks for 15 yards. Krusen led the
defense that held Lock Haven to just three points in KU’s 7-3 win over the
Bald Eagles on Saturday.
9/22 Danielle
Gould, of the women’s soccer
team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Gould led
Kutztown to a 2-0 week, including a pair of 2-1 victories over PSAC foes
East Stroudsburg and Clarion. Gould scored the game winner against East
Stroudsburg and assisted the first goal against Clarion.
9/29 Mandi
Johnsen, of the women’s soccer
team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Johnson
pitched a pair of shutouts in KU’s 2-0 week against PSAC competition.
Johnsen had seven saves in the 3-0 win over Millersville, while picking up
nine saves in the 1-0 victory at Edinboro. Johnson has seven shutouts this
season, tying the school record set by Tracey Blanchard in 1994.

Scartozzi, of the football team, is
this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Scartozzi, KU’s
place kicker, connected on a 38-yard field goal with 0:50 left in the
contest to give Kutztown a 17-16 win over nationally ranked West Chester.
Scartozzi was also 2-of-2 on point-after kicks.
10/13 Alok
Bhide, of the men’s tennis team,
is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Bhide and his
doubles partner, Mukundan Nandakumar, won the A Doubles title at last
Monday’s ITA Regional Tournament at Bloomsburg. The victory gives the
duo a berth in the ITA Small College Championship this week in Corpus
Christi, TX. Additionally, Bhide advanced to the semifinals of the A
Singles bracket before being knocked out.
10/20 Kelly
Lau, of the women’s soccer team,
is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Lau scored a
pair of goals as KU defeated Lock Haven, 3-1. The win tied a school record
for victories in a season, 11. Lau also assisted KU’s goal in a 1-1 tie
vs. West Chester.
10/27 Matt Sola, of the
football team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the
Week. Sola led the defensive charge in Kutztown’s 17-0 shutout
over Millersville. He had eight tackles, including a career-high
five sacks for –22 yards.
11/3 Molly
Lare, of the women’s cross
country team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.
Lare earned All-PSAC honors at the Cross Country Championships at
Bloomsburg on Saturday. Lare finished seventh in the race to pace Kutztown
to fourth-place team finish. Lare completed the 6K course in 23:28. She is
the first freshman to earn All-PSAC honors in cross country for KU since
Megan Seefeldt in 1998.
11/10 Katie
Herman, of the women’s volleyball
team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Herman
led KU to a 3-0 week, including PSAC East wins over Millersville and East
Stroudsburg. In 15 games, Herman had 150 assists, 64 digs and 13 kills.
During the week, she set KU’s single-season record for assists and
became the first Golden Bear to record 1,000 assists in a season.
11/17 DeLorean Reese,
of the women’s swimming team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore
Athlete of the Week. Reese led the Golden Bears to a 104-101 win
over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Reese was a double individual
winner for KU, taking the 200 free in 2:02.47 and the 500 free in 5:29.78.
She also swam the second leg of the victorious 400 free relay, the final
event of the meet, which gave KU the dual-meet victory.
11/24 Matt
Rowan, of the men’s swimming
team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Rowan led
Kutztown to the team title at the Golden Bear Invitational last weekend. Rowan
won the 50 free in 21.18 to win the event, but his leg of the 200 free
relay (20.92) set KU's school, pool and meet records and qualified him for
nationals. He also set a pool and meet records and made the provisional
cut for nationals in the 100 back, with his 52.32 split on the winning 400
medley relay. Rowan also took first in the 100 back (52.34) and 100
free (47.10), and led off the victorious 400 medley and 200 free relays.
12/1 Bilal
Salaam, of the men’s basketball
team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Salaam
helped Kutztown to an 81-63 win at Columbia Union on Tuesday. He scored 11
points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked eight shots. Salaam was 4-of-5
from the floor and hit 3-of-4 free throws against the Pioneers.

Bilal Salaam,
of the men’s basketball team, repeats as this week’s KU Student
Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Salaam averaged a “double-double”
in three games last week. He averaged 11.7 points and 10.3 rebounds
per game. He also blocked 10 shots. Against Indiana (PA), he had
seven points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. Against Shippensburg,
Salaam notched 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Amanda Zinobile,
of the women’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore
Athlete of the Week. Zinobile averaged 14.5 points in Kutztown’s two games
this week. She scored 21 points, hitting 7-of-10 field goals and 6-of-6 free
throws, in a 65-50 loss to Edinboro. She then scored eight points with four
assists and five rebounds in a 66-57 loss at Clarion.

Moultrie, of the men’s
basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of
the Week. Moultrie was instrumental in Kutztown’s victories over
PSAC West foes Slippery Rock and California (PA). He scored a
career-high 26 points, including 21 in the second half, in KU’s
win over #17 California. He hit five three pointers, and connected
on two free throws with 10 seconds left to ice the 66-62 decision.
Against Slippery Rock, Moultrie scored 13 points.

Bret Wade,
of the wrestling team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the
Week. Wade was a perfect 3-0 in his three matches of the week. Despite the
team going 1-2 at the East Regional Duals at Shippensburg over the Weekend,
Wade was a bright spot. Wade won by fall in KU’s win over Anderson, won by
decision in overtime in the loss to Gannon, and won by decision in the loss to
West Liberty State. Wade’s 11-4 record this season is the best among the
Golden Bears.
1/20 Justin
Collins, of the men’s
indoor track & field team, won two events to lead the Golden
Bears at the Kutztown Invitational on Friday. Collins won the long
jump with a distance of 22-11 1/4, more than a foot longer than his
nearest competitor. He then won the triple jump with a leap of 43-7
1/4.
1/26 Justin
Collins, of the men’s
indoor track & field team, won two events and placed second in
another to lead the Golden Bears at the Susquehanna Invitational on
Friday. Collins won the long jump with a distance of 23-8 3/4,
nearly two feet longer than his nearest competitor. He also ran a
leg of the winning 4x400 meter relay (3:24.32). The long jump mark
was an NCAA provisional distance and both his long jump and the
4x400 meter relay were field house records. Collins also placed
second in the triple jump (44-9 3/4).
2/2 Bilal
Salaam, of the men’s
basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of
the Week. Salaam averaged 20.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in KU’s
two PSAC East victories over Bloomsburg and Millersville. Salaam
scored a career high 27 points on 12-of-15 shooting in the win over
Bloomsburg. His slam dunk with 5.8 seconds left broke a 75-75 tie
and gave KU the win.
2/9 Jeff
Brickus, of the men’s
basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of
the Week. Brickus averaged 12.7 points in Kutztown’s three games
last week. In KU’s two PSAC East games, against West Chester and
Cheyney, Brickus averaged 19 points and 7.5 assists per game, while
connecting on 56% (14-25) of his field goals. He scored 16 points in
the win over West Chester, and added 22 in the loss to Cheyney.
2/16 Monique
Boykins, of the women’s
basketball team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of
the Week. Boykins averaged 16 points and 15 rebounds in two Golden
Bear victories last week. She scored 10 points and grabbed 13
rebounds in KU’s PSAC East win over Mansfield, then scored 22
points and hauled in a career-high 17 rebounds against the
University of Sciences.
2/23 Matt
Rowan and Brad Borek,
of the men’s swimming team, are this week’s KU Student Bookstore
Co-Athletes of the Week. The duo led the Golden Bears to a program
record third-place finish at the PSAC Championships. Rowan was the
PSAC Champion in the 50 free, and placed third in the 100 free and
fourth in the 100 back. Borek won the PSAC title in the 100 breast,
setting a school record in the preliminaries. He also placed third
in the 200 breast. The duo were also part of three third place
relays
3/1 Matt
Haverly, of the baseball
team, and Justin Collins, of the men’s indoor track &
field team, are this week’s KU Student Bookstore Co-Athletes of
the Week. Haverly earns the honor after pitching a perfect game
against East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Haverly retired all 21 batters
he faced in the seven-inning victory. He had a career-high nine
strikeouts. Collins shares the honor after being named the Most
Outstanding Field Athlete at the PSAC Indoor Championships. He was
the PSAC Champion in the long jump and triple jump.
3/8 Jeff
Brickus,
of the men’s basketball team, is this week’s KU Student
Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Brickus was the catalyst in Kutztown’s
post-season run, leading the Bears to wins in the PSAC Quarterfinals
and Semifinals, before KU lost to Indiana (PA) in the championship
game. He averaged 19.7 points and 3.3 assists in the three games. He
had 21 points, 6 assists and five rebounds against Mansfield, 22
points and 5 rebounds against California, and 16 points against IUP.
3/15 Justin
Collins, of the men’s
indoor track & field team, is this week’s KU Student Bookstore
Athlete of the Week. Collins earned All-America honors at the NCAA
Division II Championships on Friday in Boston. Collins finished
fifth in the long jump, with a distance of 24-0 1/4. It was his
third career All-America performance.
3/22
Sara Otis, of the women’s outdoor track & field team, is this
week’s KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Otis was a double
winner as KU finished fourth of 11 teams at the UNC-Wilmington
Seahawk Invitational. Otis won the 400m hurdles with a time of
1:04.39, and ran the third leg of the winning 4x400 relay. She was
also a member of KU’s second-place 4x100 relay.
