Last Week’s Action

       SAT 4/15 — KUTZTOWN6, BLOOMSBURG 2 - Matt Maradeo (sr. Nesquehoning/Panther Valley) struck out nine in a complete-game victory to lead Kutztown to the 6-2 win over Bloomsburg.  Maradeo scattered five hits and allowed two unearned runs to get his fifth win of the season.  Josh Fink (sr. Hatfield/North Penn) was 2-for-4 with two runs, leading off the first with a solo homer.  Mike McCardell (jr. West Chester/Henderson), Ryan Loper (jr. Boiling Springs/Cumberland Valley) and Paul Cashin (jr. Collingdale/Monsignor Bonner) drove in runs in the fifth to give KU insurance runs.  Loper was 2-for-3.

BLOOMSBURG 7, KUTZTOWN 4 - Bloomsburg won the see-saw game, 7-4, over Kutztown.  Down 1-0 in the fourth, Loper blasted a 2-run homer.  McCardell was 2-for-4.  Bill Loskiewictz (sr. Philadelphia/Nuemann-Garretti) was the losing pitcher, despite striking out nine over six innings.

TUE 4/11 — MILLERSVILLE 8, KUTZTOWN 0 (6 inn) - Millersville scored four runs in the first inning to defeat Kutztown, 8-0.  Millersville came out swinging, hitting a single, two doubles and a triple for the four runs.  Kim Morrison (fr. Newmarket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) was 2-for-3 on the afternoon.

MILLERSVILLE 6, KUTZTOWN 2 - Kutztown jumped out to an early lead, but Millersville came from behind to complete the sweep of the doubleheader, 6-2.  Ashley Fitzgerald (fr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) hit a two-run double in the first inning to give Kutztown  a 2-0 lead.  The Marauders answered with a run in the second and three in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.  Dani Spalik (jr. Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) was 2-for-2.  Fitzgerald was 2-for-3 and Adriane Willmer (jr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) was 2-for-4.

SAT 4/15 — KUTZTOWN 2, BLOOMSBURG 0 - Kutztown defeated Bloomsburg, 2-0.  Stacey Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) pitched a complete game, striking out eight.  Jennie Lincoln (so. Stafford, VA/North Stafford), 2-for-2, hit her first homer on the season in the 5th inning to give KU a 2-0 lead.  KU's first run came when Stacey Denlinger, pinch running for Lincoln, scored on a Willmer sacrifice fly in the third inning.

KUTZTOWN 2, BLOOMSBURG 1 - Steph Denlinger (fr. Harleysville/Souderton) hit a walk-off homer run in the bottom of the seventh to give KU the 2-1 win and complete the sweep over Bloomsburg.  Willmer scored KU's first run in the first inning off a Steph Denlinger single.  Stacey Denlinger started the game, going four scoreless innings.  Rachel Weidensaul (so. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) came in relief in the fifth for the win.

Men’s Tennis (10-1, 5-0 PSAC)

MON 4/10 — Kutztown 9, Millersville 0 - Kutztown blanked Millersville, 9-0. Harsh Shama (jr. Calcutta, INDIA) and Lukas Labitsch (fr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) started doubles with an 8-3 win at first.  Radoslaw Hlubinski (sr. Warsaw, POLAND) and Santiago Baquerizo (fr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) won second doubles, 8-4, and Sendur Gautham (fr. Chennai, INDIA/Central York {PA}) and Lukas Beman (jr. Woodend, AUSTRALIA) won third doubles, 8-2.  Baquerizo started first singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win.  Sharma followed with a 7-6, 6-1 win at second.  Hlubinski won third singles, 6-1, 6-2.  Labitsch won fourth, 6-2, 6-1.  Gautham won fifth, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 (super tie breaker) and Jose Castro (fr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) won sixth, 6-4, 6-2.

WED 4/12 — KUTZTOWN 9, BLOOMSBURG 0 – Kutztown defeated Bloomsburg, 9-0.  Sharma and Labitsch started off the rout with a win at first doubles, 8-0. Hlubinski and Castro added a win at second doubles, 8-3. At third doubles, Gautham and Beman won, 8-2.  The Golden Bears knocked off all six singles opponents, each in nine or less games per set. Sharma started at first with a 6-0, 6-2 win. Hlubinski won second, 6-2, 6-3. Labitsch won at third, 6-0, 6-2.  Beman won fourth, 6-1, 6-2. Castro won fifth, 6-2, 6-2 and Gautham won sixth, 6-0, 6-2.

SAT 4/15 — Kutztown 9, East Stroudsburg 0- Kutztown shut out East Stroudsburg, 9-0, to end its week not losing a set.  Hlubinski and Somdeep Appineni (jr. Hyderabad, INDIA) started out at doubles with a win, 8-1. Sharma and Castro added a win at second doubles, 8-2. At third doubles, Gautham and Beman ended with a 8-0 win.  The Golden Bears knocked off all six singles opponents, taking no more than eight games in a set. Sharma won 6-0, 6-1 at first.  Hlubinski won second, 6-1, 6-2.  Appineni won third, 6-2, 6-1. At fourth, Beman won 6-2, 6-1. Castro won at fifth, 6-2, 6-0 and Gautham won sixth, 6-0, 6-1.

WED 4/12 — BLOOMSBURG 5, KUTZTOWN 4 – Kutztown lost a heartbreaker to Bloomsburg, 5-4.  Kerstin Kloeffer (sr. Ludwigshafen, GERMANY) and Priya Pachkawde (jr. Nasik, INDIA) won first doubles, 9-8, and Magaly Peter (fr. Mundolsheim, FRANCE) and Jharna Nansi (jr. Mumbai, INDIA) won second doubles, 8-4.  Kloeffer started singles well, winning 6-0, 6-1 and Peter won second singles, 3-0, retired, but the Golden Bears could not manage a win in the final four matches.

SAT 4/15 — Kutztown 7, East Stroudsburg 2 - Kutztown defeated East Stroudsburg, 7-2.  Peter and Nansi won at first doubles, 8-3 and Lauren Losoncy (sr. Shillington/Govenor Mifflen) and Kloeffer won second doubles, 8-3.  The Golden Bears took 1-through-5 singles.  Kloeffer won first singles, 6-0, 6-0.  Peter won second singles, 6-1, 6-0.  Losoncy took third singles, 6-0, 6-0. Nansi won fourth, 6-1, 6-1 and Gina Panichelli (fr. Coatesville/Bishop Shanahan) won fifth, 6-4, 7-5.

FRI 4/14 — at Bucknell Distance Classic – Kutztown traveled to Bucknell and competed in the Bucknell Distance Classic.  KU had four runners turn in PSAC qualifying times.  In the 1500m, Cheryl Dingman (fr. Lansdale/North Penn) ran 4:46.70 and Desiree Bower (jr. Bethel/Tulpehocken) ran 4:56.78.  In the 5000, Pat Coyne (jr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) ran 15:35.50.  In the 10,000, Dan Wilde (jr. Lemoyne/Cedar Cliff) ran 32:53.06.

FRI 4/14-SAT 4/15 — GOLDEN BEAR MULTIS — In the women’s heptathlon, Renee Marchand (jr. Hawley/Wallenpaupack) finished in first place out of five with 4,253 points.  In the men’s decathlon, Ian Clark (so. Troy, NH/Monadnock Regional) placed second out of 10 with 5,796 points.
