Stroudsburg 3, Kutztown 1 —
ESU limited KU to three hits in a 3-1 Warrior win in the opening
game of the 2006 NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional at
Shippensburg University. ESU jumped out to an early lead, scoring
twice during a rain-drenched top of the first inning. Before the
top of the first could be completed, the rain became too much to
handle, causing a two hour rain delay. After play resumed, ESU
stretched its lead to 3-0 in the top of the third. KU got on the
board in the in its half of the third.
Adriane Willmer
(jr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection)
reached on an error, and scored on a single by
Krista Cameron (fr.
Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart).
Rachel Weidensaul (so. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan)
took the loss, despite striking out six over five innings.
FRI 5/12 —
Millersville 2, Kutztown 1 —
Kutztown University's softball team saw its season come to a close
with a 2-1 loss to Millersville in game five of the NCAA Division II
Mid-Atlantic Regional. Millersville jumped ahead in the second with
a leadoff home run. The Marauders manufactured a run in the third
to make it 2-0. KU cut the lead in half in the fourth when
Cameron
belted her 10th homer of the season
over the right field fence. The Golden Bears threatened to tie the
game in both the fifth and sixth innings, getting a runner to third
in both frames, but couldn't push the tying run across. KU went
down in order in the seventh.
Weidensaul
took the loss (19-6), striking out four over seven innings. She
allowed just four hits. Cameron
was 2-for-3 for Kutztown.

Edwards (TX) 5, KU 0 —
Kutztown lost to St. Edwards (TX), 5-0, in the round of 16 at the
NCAA Championships. The Golden Bears fell behind 3-0 after doubles,
meaning the Hilltoppers needed just two singles points to clinch the
match. St. Edwards got those points from the #2 and #6 matches.

blanked a short-handed Kutztown (Pa.), 5-0, in the Round of 16 at
the NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Championships. Kutztown was
playing without

, #2 doubles and #4
singles player, who was unable to travel with the team. KU had to
shuffle its lineup, as
Lauren Losoncy
moved up to pair with
Magaly Peter at
#2 doubles, and the Bears had to forfeit #3 doubles and #6 singles.
Losoncy and
Kristen Bodalski
each moved up one singles seed. With the forfeits and a doubles
sweep, Abilene Christian led 4-0 heading into the singles matches,
needing just one more point to clinch the match. The Wildcats got
that point from fourth singles. The rest of the singles matches did
not finish.

Kutztown had several athletes compete
at the Last Chance Meet at Ichan Stadium in New York. For the
women,
