FRI 9/1 —
at Lehigh Valley Championships
M:
2nd/4 – Kutztown opened its 2006 season with a second place finish
at the Lehigh Valley Championships. Lehigh's men had 15 points for
the win, followed by Kutztown with 60 points. Muhlenberg collected
81 points for third while DeSales finished fourth with 94. Dan
Wilde (sr. New Cumberland/Cedar Cliff) finished first for Kutztown,
11th overall, in 26:41, on the 8k course. Pat Bone (jr. Preasville/Central
Bucks West) was right behind Wilde in 26:44 for 12th. Joe Haughey
(sr. Richboro/Council Rock South) finished in 16th (26:57), Tony
Skiles (so. West Reading/Wyomissing) placed 20th (27:12) and John
Pyne (so. Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt) was 21st (27:14).
W: 2nd/3
– The women also placed second to
begin their season. Lehigh tallied 25 points with KU second with
34. Muhlenberg finished third with 84 points. Stephanie
Williams (jr. Harrisburg/Riverside)
was KU’s top runner, finishing second overall in 22:42, on the 6k
course.
Joanna Horstmann (so. Downingtown/Downingtown West)
placed third in 22:59.
Cheryl Dingman
(so. Lansdale/North Penn) came
in sixth (23:16),
Chelsea Thomas
(sr. Sellersville/Pennridge)
finished 11th
(23:41) and
Desiree Bower (sr.
Bethel/Tulpehocken) placed 12th
(24:06).

Michael's 2, Kutztown 1 -
Kutztown lost its first game of the season to St. Michael's, 2-1.
St. Michael's scored a goal right before half time to take a 1-0
lead. St. Michael's scored again in the second half to go up 2-0.
Kutztown got on the board when

(so. Annandale, NJ/Summit)
scored, from
Kelley Healey (so.
Toms River, NJ/Toms River North),
with 2:46 left in the game.
Sam Flowers (jr.
Souderton/Souderton) had two
saves in net.
SUN 9/4 —
Kutztown 4, Southern Connecticut 1
- KU notched its first victory against Southern Connecticut, 4-1.
Laura Belfatti (sr.
Hatfield/Lansdale
Catholic)
scored the only
goal in the first half, from
Heather Hoxter (jr.
Parkesburg/Octorara),
off a penalty corner. Southern Connecticut tied the game in the
second half, but the Golden Bears answered with three more goals.
Hoxter scored
the second goal, from
Healey, to put
KU up for good .
Lauren Solley (fr.
Oley Valley/Oley
Valley) scored
the final two goals to seal the victory. Both teams had 13 shots.
Flowers had
eight saves in the cage for KU.

- California (PA) spoiled the 2006 home opener, with a 1-0 decision
over KU. The Vulcans' netted the game's only goal after a flurry in
front of the KU net in the 32nd minute.

stopped four shots in goal for KU.
SUN 9/3 —
Kutztown 2, Bloomsburg 1
- Kutztown won its first game of the season, 2-1, over Bloomsburg.
The game remained scoreless until the 50:44 mark when

Jason Lear (fr.
Montoursville/Montoursville)

Golden Bears held off the Huskies for the win.

- Kutztown and Bloomsburg played to a 0-0 tie in two overtimes.
Rodweller had
six saves in net for the Golden Bears. Kutztown had seven shots on
goal while Bloomsburg had eight.
