Last Week’s Action

       TUE 10/3 — KUTZTOWN 5, MILLERSVILLE 4 - Kelley Healey (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) scored a hat trick and Kutztown held off a late Millersville rally in a  5-4 victory.  Healey’s first goal gave KU a 1-0 lead.  The second put the Bears ahead for good with 8:53 to play in the first.  The fifth goal proved to be the difference as Millersville cut the lead in the final minutes.  Up 2-1 after Healey's goal, Mandi Turner (sr. Sumneytown/Upper Perkiomen) gave KU a 3-1 lead with 6:27 left in the first half.  Alyssa Maltese's (fr. Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) first collegiate goal made it 4-1 with 21:09 left in the game, followed 49 seconds later by Healey's third goal.  Sam Flowers (jr. Souderton/Souderton) had seven saves for Kutztown.

THU 10/5 — East Stroudsburg 4, Kutztown 1 - East Stroudsburg scored three first half goals en route to a 4-1 win over Kutztown.  ESU scored at the 2:30 and 9:18 minute mark to jump out to an early lead, then went up 3-0 with a goal 23:49 into the first half.  Kutztown scored its only goal as time expired in the first half.  Whitney Stum's (so. Landisburg/West Perry) penalty corner found Jennifer Belfatti (so. Hatfield/Lansdale Catholic), who put the ball in the cage to make it 3-1 at the break. The Warriors netted the second half's only score 2:52 into the half for the 4-1 margin.  Flowers had four saves for KU.

SAT 10/7 — Kutztown 7, Slippery Rock 0 - Kelley Healey scored a hat trick as Kutztown cruised to a 7-0 win over Slippery Rock. Lindsay Bozarth (so. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) scored two goals and Kristin Snyder (so. Dalton/Lackawanna Trail) and Laura Belfatti (sr. Hatfield/Lansdale Catholic) had a goal apiece.  Belfatti added an assist, as did Laura Wieder (jr. Emmaus/Emmaus), Jessica Deveney (so. Plymouth Meeting/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and Lauren Solley (fr. Oley Valley/Oley Valley).  KU scored four goals in the first half, with Bozarth scoring both her goals and Healey and Snyder scoring to give KU the commanding lead.  Flowers had two saves, both in the second half, as KU limited the Rock to just four shots.

FRI 10/6-SAT 10/7 — at California (PA) Invitational - 3rd/8 – Kutztown finished third at the California (PA) Invitational at Cedarbrook Golf Course.  California placed first with a two-day score of 689.  Allagheny was second with 708 and Kutztown was third with 714.  Laval came in fourth with a score of 731.  Mercyhurst was fifth (742), Ohio Valley and Wheeling Jesuit tied for sixth (843) and West Chester was eighth (845).  Ange Petak (jr. Brockway/Brockway) was KU’s top finisher on the par 72 course.  Petak finished the two-day invitational tied for sixth, 88-85-137.  Bethany Adams (so. Schnecksville/Parkland) tied for 10th, 89-86-175.  Holly Shubilla (sr. Wilkes-Barre/GAR Memorial) (93-90-183) and Tristin Suzenski (sr. Pottstown/St. Pius X) (90-93-183) tied for 17th and Lauren Foulke (so. Kempton/Kutztown) tied for 23rd, 94-95-189.

Last Week’s Action

TUE 10/3 — SLIPPERY ROCK 3, KUTZTOWN 0 - Slippery Rock scored three goals in the first half to defeat Kutztown, 3-0.  Slippery Rock's first goal came in the 17th minute.  The Rock scored again in the 35th minute.  SRU sealed the game with a penalty shot with 45 second left in the first half.  Ryan Kratz (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) made four saves in net for the Golden Bears.

SAT 10/7 — C. W. Post 4, Kutztown 1 - Kutztown dropped a 4-1 decision to C. W. Post.  C. W. Post scored the first two goals of the game before Kutztown got on the board in the 44th minute.  Bill Frosoni (so. North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) scored for the Golden Bears, off an assist from Jason Lear (fr. Montoursville/Montoursville), to cut C. W. Post's lead to one.  C. W. Post came out and scored two more goals in the second half for the 4-1 victory.  Kratz made four saves in net for the Golden Bears. 

SUN 10/8 — New York Tech 4, Kutztown 1 - Kutztown fell to New York Tech, 4-1.  The NYIT Bears scored in the 5th, 20th and 26th minutes to jump to a 3-0 lead.  Frosoni scored off a pass from Jarrett Cutstler (fr. Doylestown/Central Bucks West) to cut it to 3-1 with 10 minutes left in the first half.  NYIT put the final score on the board with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

Last Week’s Action

MON 10/2 — C. W. Post 1, Kutztown 0 – C. W. Post scored the game's only goal with 2:06 left in the second half to lift C.W. Post to a 1-0 win over Kutztown.  Nicole Rodweller (sr. Easton/Easton) had seven saves in net for KU.

SAT 10/7 — KUTZTOWN 0, MANSFIELD 0 (2ot) - Kutztown and Mansfield played to a 0-0 tie.  KU goalkeeper, Rodweller, and the MU goalkeeper, each had five saves in net.

Last Week’s Action

SAT 10/7-SUN 10/8 — at PSAC Individual Championships - The singles #1 seed, Santiago Baquerizo (so. Guayaquil, ECUADOR), made it to the finals before he fell to a player from Bloomsburg, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) at the PSAC Individual Championships at Shippensburg.  Baquerizo had a bye in the first round before defeating his opponents in the quarterfinal, 6-1, 6-1, and in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-4, to make it to the finals.  Kutztown’s two other singles players, #3 Lukas Labitsch (so. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) and Somdeep Appineni (sr. Hyderabad, INDIA), each lost in the first round with 4-6, 6-4 (10-6) and 6-1, 6-1 scores, respectively.  In the doubles, the duo of Rubens Vianna (jr. Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL) and Arpit Sharma (fr. Kolkata, INDIA) made its way into the finals before losing to Bloomsburg’s team, 8-4.  Vianna and Sharma had a bye in the quarterfinals and won the semifinals, 8-4.

Last Week’s Action

SAT 10/7-SUN 10/8 — at PSAC Individual Championships - Sabrina Arnaud (fr. Pintendre, CANADA), Katie Miller (jr. Fleetwood/Fleetwood) and Pyria Pachkawde (jr. Nasik, INDIA) competed in the singles tournament at the PSAC Individual Championships at Shippensburg.  Arnaud lost in the first round, 2-6, 6-4 (11-9).  Pachkawde defeated her opponent, 6-4, 6-4, and Miller had a bye.  Pachkawde and Miller both lost in the quarterfinals with scores of 3-6, 7-5 (10-7) and 6-2, 6-3, respectively.  In the doubles, the team of Miller and Arnaud had a bye in the first round and then lost , 8-0, in the quarterfinals.

Last Week’s Action

TUE 10/3 — KUTZTOWN 3, CHEYNEY 0 - Kutztown defeated Cheyney in three games.  Game scores were 30-7, 30-4, 30-11.  Brittany Hoke (so. Chadds Ford/Unionville) led KU with 10 kills.  She added seven service aces.  Amanda Schoemaker (so. Macungie/Emmaus) dished out 10 assists and eight service aces.  Ashlie Molloy (so. Allentown/Parkland) added 25 assists.  Alison Wise (fr. Fivepointville/Garden Spot) notched seven digs and Katie Miller (fr. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) added eight kills.

KUTZTOWN 3, CHEYNEY 0 – Kutztown and Cheyney played a second match due to a scheduling conflict on the original game date (10/28).  During the second match, KU was victorious in three games as well.  Game scores were 30-4, 30-7, 30-8.  Hoke again led the Golden Bears in kills with 12.  Schoemaker dished out 15 assists and seven service aces.  Nicole Biuso (jr. Centereach, NY/Ward Melville) notched six service aces and Austin Kinney (so. Landisville/Hempfield) had five.  Molley added seven assists.  Krys George (sr. Wescosville/Emmaus) notched five kills.

SAT 10/7 — at St. Leo Tri-Match

  Kutztown 3, Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 1 - Kutztown defeated Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, 3-1. Game scores were 30-23, 24-30, 30-14 and 30-22.  Sarah Brandon (sr. Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) led KU with 19 kills.  Dani Witherite (sr. PA Furnace/State College) added 15 kills and 21 digs.  Kinney dished out 48 assists and added 13 digs.  Biuso added 17 digs.

St. Leo 3, Kutztown 2 - Kutztown lost in five games, 3-2, to St. Leo.  Game scores were 30-18, 29-31, 25-30, 30-26, 15-13.  Brandon notched 20 kills for the Golden Bears.  Witherite added 18 kills. Kinney dished out 48 assists.  Biuso had 14 digs.
