Cross Country

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 11/4 — NCAA East Regionals (at Slippery Rock)              

       W: 1st/31 – The KU women’s cross country team won its first NCAA East Regional Title and had four runners earn All-Region at the NCAA East Regionals Saturday morning at Slippery Rock, PA.  Kutztown finished first out of 31 teams with 51 points for the title. Edinboro came in second with 58 points. Slippery Rock was third with 95 points.  Bloomsburg was fourth with 121 points and Indiana (PA) was fifth with 153 points.  Stephanie Williams (jr. Harrisburg/Riverside) finished fifth in 23:22 in the 6K.  Joanna Horstmann (so. Downingtown/Downingtown West) placed sixth (23:26).  Desiree Bower (sr. Bethel/Tulpehocken) placed ninth (23:40) and Maureen Watson (fr. Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic) finished 13th (23:45).  All four earned All-Region honors.  Rounding out the top seven for the championship team were Chelsea Thomas (sr. Sellersville/Pennridge) in 18th (23:58), Cheryl Dingman (so. Lansdale/North Penn) in 30th (24:38) and Lauren Ayers (fr. Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township) in 61st (25:34). 

M: 11th/26 – The Golden Bear men finished 11th out of 26 teams, up one spot from last season’s finish.  Lock Haven came in first in the men's 10K run with 51 points. Edinboro placed second with 88 points followed by Shippensburg with 104 points.  Indiana (PA) was in front of KU with 236 points for 10th.  Kutztown finished 11th with 240 points and West Chester finished 12th with 303 points.  Pat Bone (jr. Preasville/Central Bucks West) led the KU men, finishing in 31st place with a time of 34:30 in the 10K run. Dan Wilde (sr. New Cumberland/Cedar Cliff) finished in 37th (34:50) and Tony Skiles (so. West Reading/Wyomissing) finished 55th (35:14). Pat Coyne (sr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) finished in 56th (35:14), Joe Haughey (sr. Richboro/Council Rock South) placed 61st (35:14), Pat McKeever (jr. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) was 89th (36:43) and John Pyne (so. Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt) finished 98th (36:59).

FRI 11/3 — PSAC Championships

      California (PA) 3, Kutztown 1 – Kutztown fell to California (PA), 3-1, in a PSAC semifinal at Lock Haven.  The Lady Vulcans won game one, 30-18, before Kutztown won game two, 30-20.  In the third game, Cal came from behind to win 31-29, and then clinched the match with a 30-24 score in game four.  Sarah Brandon (sr. Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) led Kutztown with 20 kills.  Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne) had 14 kills and four blocks, while Dani Witherite (sr. PA Furnace/State College) had 13 kills and 10 digs.  Nicole Biuso (jr. Centereach, NY/Ward Melville) added 20 digs, while Austin Kinney (so. Landisville/Hempfield) dished out 45 assists.

SAT 11/4 — Kutztown 136, East Stroudsburg 126 – KU defeated ESU by a score of, 136-126.  The 200 yard free relay team of Staci McGinty (jr. Jamison/Central Bucks East), Jill Pantelides (jr. Lansdowne/Arch Prendergast), Chelsea Gerhart (fr. Nazarth/Saucon Valley) and Ashley Singer (jr. Lititz/Warwick), won in a time of 1:43.29.  Singer also won the 100 free (53.42), 200 free (1:56.49) and 100 fly (59.80).  McGinty won the 1000 free in 11:22.45.  Steph Jeppesen (fr. Bethlehem/Liberty) won three events, the 100 breast (1:09.73), 200 breast (2:31.17) and 200 IM (2:14.89).
